Was on the green of a par5. My 4some was lining up our puts when all of a sudden a ball came streaking from the fairway and plopped onto the green about 5ft from one of my friends. No Fore was yelled either, and the group in the fairway just stood there staring at us Lining up another shot.

My friend took his putter and crushed the other groups ball off the green and into the trap and we just picked up and moved onto the next hole. What would you do?

If its like that then theres a problem.

I almost hit a guy once, but it was an errand shot just to the right of the green, while they were teeing off(the next tee are usual close). I was far enough I really couldnt say sorry with them understanding, but I did wave stating that I was.

Probably not that. How far out were they? Was there an open hole in front of you? This has been covered a few times, but if it happens once, from > 200 yards out, I'll ignore it. Once.

We got hit into on a long par 5 over the weekend. This par 5 was playing about 585 this day. I was on the green preparing to putt, and a ball comes rolling in. The thing was that this dude had to be at least 270 out from where he hit... We just dropped our jaws and said "WTF????"

Wasn't like that We woudlve been atonished if it had been and probably congratulated him. Under 200 out, there was a slow group infront of us, and a slower group infront of them. SO we were taking our time putting out and being strategic afterall we had nothing else to do but go sit on the next Tee box. Instead of playing rushed golf.

This group behind us was in carts and was rushing to play every ball at every hole like the ground was on fire behind them. They just seemd to have an attitude even though the never actually said anything. It was like non-verbal F" U slow guys to us. Even though we werent the one slowing everyone up. EDIT: Made it sound like we were playing slow, We werent just not playing rush golf.

I've been hit twice, and a third time came inches from having an approach shot bury itself in my cheek. The times I got hit were when a ball was came from an adjoining hole. Either they didn't yell Fore or I didn't hear it, but it didn't bother me, really. That third time, though, I was bending down to mark my ball on the green and just as I was standing up, and ball came whizzing into the green through the spot where my face had been just a second earlier. When I turned around, there was a player in the middle of the fairway with a club in his hand. That really fried me. So I picked up the ball, sauntered out to him, which gave me time to get a cooler head, handed it back, and said, "You wait until we're off the green." I mosied back to the green, we putted out, and I went into the pro shop to report the incident. There's nothing to be gained by making a scene on the course.

One time I had a following group hit into us on consecutive holes, and I reported that when the round was over, too. And no, we weren't playing slowly.

If I get hit by a ball from another fairway I view it as "accidents happen" and without exception the person who hit said shot will apologize even if he/she didn't yell "FORE" first. If I get hit by a ball hit by a person behind me on the same fairway, I view it as poor manners. I can't say I would have done what the OP did in this case, but I'd be sorely tempted.

I almost got hit, and it was my fault. Walking, playing in a foursome. Dogleg right par 5 with water running down the left just about the whole way. I'm about 75 yards past my playing partner (OK golfer shoots 95-105). I was left, just 15 yards from getting wet. Playing partner right middle of fairway. He gets out his 5 wood, aims at the green toward the right. I'm 75 yards ahead of him, about 35 degrees to his left. He hits a screaming shoulder high, severe pull. I had to jump toward the water to avoid getting hit. My nickname was "the water dancer" the rest of the round.

I was teeing off this past weekend in a scramble. I had just lifted up and was getting ready to swing when a ball came down about 6' from where I stood. I hesitated for moment, took a couple of deep breaths and hit my ball. I still hit it well considering I had been slightly distracted. Had it not been someone in my scramble, I may have gotten slightly upset since no one yelled a warning, but I shook it off and went on about my game. Our team won the scramble with a -14, so I walked away with a little cash in my pocket.

If it was the first time we were hit into I would let it go as poop happens. If it happens again I would say something.

I almost got hit about a month or two ago acting as a caddie for my school's alumni charity event. The hole was a short 270-280 Par 4 and I just took the pin out of the hole and heard "FORE!" being yelled. I debated for a second on which way I should go since I had my back to them at the time and with a stroke of luck, I picked the right direction. Had I continued going towards the back of the green instead of off to the side, I would have probably been struck in the back. When the group behind us caught up to ours at the turn, they did apologize and the guy claimed he didn't know he could hit it that far. Good thing it avoided the other members of the group. I was caddying for the president of the college, one of the former athletic directors, and some board of trustee's members.

We were playing this weekend behind a slow foursome behind another slow foursome. We had another foursome behind us that we would make some room on after every hole, so we could wait a little bit on every shot to not hit into the group ahead of us. Teed off on a long par 5 after the group had hit their second shot and made it to their balls. (gave plenty of room) We hit our drives to the middle of the fairway and I hit my second shot as I am watching it fly, a ball rolled up next to my foot. I didn't think anything about it and turned around and looked and a twosome had jumped the group behind us. We drove on up to our balls and "BAM" the other guys ball hit our cart. We stopped picked up his ball and drove back to where they were, asked what the problem was, and they said that we were just standing there not playing so they hit to get us to move. Pretty crummy. We explained that we were behind a couple of slow groups and they apologized. Two holes later they hit into us again, so we turned around and hit their ball back at them, called the pro shop, reported it, and a marshal came out and asked them to leave. Later found out that they had two other calls on them. My brother in law got hit once and had to get 4 staples to close the wound in his head. Not something that I want to happen to me.

Never got hit before, but had the cart get hit. I have a few land near me, but its golf, it happens. As long as there not purposely hitting into greens while were putting, or teeing off into us, thats fine. I understand someone might uber slice the ball into the next fairway.

Seriously, what is the point of hitting into a group in front of you just because they are moving slow? why risk hurting someone and/or getting sued?

No almost about it. Been hit 3 or 4 times, mostly while I was a caddie.

Took a direct hit in the lower back right ribs probably probably at 14 years of age. I was using the ball washer on No. 6 tee for my player, and someone snap-hooked a 3 iron from a nearby tee box. The hooker came up and apologized, and asked me if I was OK.

When I finished the round, I found out the hooker had left money for a sandwich and a drink for me. This was before I knew about lawsuits. I was sore for a couple of days, but no long-term damage.

Snap hooks are the most dangerous, since they travel low and hot. Balls coming off a cart path are bad too.

After a couple of years as a caddie, I got to where I could here a golf ball humming on the wind.

Focus, connect and follow through!

I was on the golf team in high school. One afternoon we were playing on one of our prictice courses. We got to a ~360yd downhill par 4. You could either play it properlly and hit maybe a 4 iron off the tee or cut the corner and go for the green(~330yds). The green is blocked a bit by some trees. Got the all clear from the group, teed it up and gave it a go with the driver. As soon as I hit the ball, a guy from the group ahead came out from behind the tree. Uh-oh. The ball tracked for him like it was in control. Hit him on the right hand and he dropped.......

We apologized when they drove past on their way back to the club house. They took him to Urgent Care. He had some bruising but that was it. PHEW!

@ Dirt

Yikes. When i first started golfing I hit an awful drive into the woods next to the Tee box, there was a green on the other side, and I heard a "AHHH UGHHH" right as the ball went through the woods.

If my stomache could have literally jumped out of my mouth and fell to the ground it wouldve; Until i realized one second later the guy had just barely missed a birdie putt and didnt even notice my errant drive ahahha.

    • I listened to the Shaun Webb one about the swing coach app. Sounds like a great thing and will (hopefully) be very useful for me. I do think the hosts are underestimating where AI could be in a few years. Right now it's just regurgitating stuff that it has been told or it has scrubbed from somewhere else and a human guiding things will be quite a lot more helpful than just the AI, but it's going to keep developing and it will reach the stage where it's figuring this stuff out on its own. Time will come when it will have you do a TPI style screen and take various height/arm length/leg length etc. measurements, have you tell it some history and your time constraints and goals and what not and it will watch a video of your swing face on and DTL and it will know exactly what you need to work on.
