They go great with visors and as a bonus the cart boy might take a liking to you.

Hey now! Easy on the visors, I'm a couple of years from 40 and still proud of my full head of hair.

How utterly useless. It'd make more sense to play barefoot.

The club I'm at now is kind of stuffy. It would be pretty fun to rock up in a pair of those just to watch the committee chairman keel over in shock. Particularly since the "rules of attire" do not even contemplate the possibility of going sockless, so arguably there's nothing explicitly prohibiting them.

Ive thought about getting golf sandals for the summer when its really hot. Ive never done it though. Im not sure they would offer enough support for your feet, I wouldnt like getting sand in my shoes when I have to do a bunker shot and IMO they just dont look right on the golf course.

They are hideous. Wearing golf sandals says a lot of bad things about the wearer, like "World of Warcraft rocks" and "my mom helps me out with the rent/mortgage/car payment".

Bullshit!!! Wearing sandals says NOTHING about the player except that he is comfortable in them. I wear sandals for virtually everything all summer long, including golf. They happen to be cooler and more comfortable than shoes. I've found no limitations on where I can go with them.

My mom hasn't helped me with anything money related for more than 40 years, and from what little I know of it, Warcraft sounds pretty boring.

I wear FJ sandals and have no problems with them or anything y'all say about 'em. I don't sweat what people say or think about me or what I wear and those of you that do....well, you have other issues.

Yep.... there were 2 of us in my foursome wearing sandals yesterday for the first round of the Senior Club Championship. The other guy ended up today taking 2nd place net, and I took 1st place. They are really good golf footwear. I see all sorts of misconceptions in this thread, mostly stated by those who haven't tried them and don't have a clue. As usual, those who think they know the most are those with the least actual experience.

I actually saw a guy playing in sandals today for the first time. I don't think they were golf sandals, though. I think they were just the shoes he happened to have on. He looked relatively new to the game.

Didn't someone on one of The Big Break seasons play barefoot? I've seen someone on tv do it, but for the life of me I can't remember where from.

And no, wearing sandals doesn't make you gay, nerdy, or a half-blood hobbit gnome in world of warcraft.... it's just not my cup of tea. It's more entertaining to read and post funny threads, so everyone try to get your knickers out of wads. Laugh guys, I'll make fun of sandals just like you'll make fun of my green golfing bucket hat, or the tu-tu I "allegedly" wear on the 2nd weekend of every month... woops, I mean...

I don't see what the big deal is. I have a pair of Nike golf sandals that I wear sometimes when I play. They're comfortable and despite some other peoples' opinions I don't think they look the least bit goofy, nerdy, or gay.

I've been using the same FJ sandals for 95% of my rounds in the last 6 years or so. They are nice because most of the sandal is rubber and therefore cleans easy.

Also for me it's a "looks" thing. Since I normally wear flipflops or leather sandals to the course anyway (sorry but not a fan of wearing shoes with khaki shorts) it makes the transition very easy and I never need to bring socks with me. I do own a pair of Nike Heritage shoes for days when I walk 18. But if in a riding cart, its the sandals for me.

Pro's -
Very breathable on the foot.
For a sandal, probably about as comfortable as you can get.
Surprisingly provide good stability.
Cleans real easy so they always look new.

Downside -
If they get wet (early morning rounds or get caught in the rain) they can get uncomfortable.
Also they tend to smell after that. Then I scrub them.

I don't find them uncomfortable when wet... certainly not as uncomfortable as wet shoes and socks. And the smell is a neoprene thing... wetsuits have the same problem when they get sweaty. I toss my FJ Sandals in the washer on gentle cycle with no spin and that takes care of it.

If everyone who had a pair of golf sandals also had a set of iron covers then your argument might actually have some merit.

Do they provide any lateral support whatsoever? I like flip-flops and sandals for casual wear but golf shoes actually add stability to your swing. Especially with funky side hill lies.

So why bother with the spikes in sandals? If you want to play in sandals just go for it. I might consider a few evening casual holes with them... or maybe even full-on barefoot!

Saw the Reef men's Spackler Golf sandals at Genesis Surf Shop. They look cool but I can't imagine swinging with any power while wearing them.

They are very stable (the FootJoy's are anyway, can't comment on what I haven't tried), even more so than some inexpensive golf shoes I've owned in the past. And I'm 6'2" and 280 pounds. If they are stable for me they should be stable for anyone. You can speculate all you want, but unless you've tried them you're just making noise.

My Nikes have superb lateral support, and since I sold athletic shoes when I was in college this is very important to me.

Mine, by the way, have soft enough spikes that I could probably wear them off the course but I don't.

I'll chime in here with a question. I want a pair of sandals for the range which I try to go to every other day. Today I was at Golfsmith and tried on the Snake Eyes and the Footjoy sandals. I found the Snake Eyes to be very uncomfortable. While the Footjoys were great they seem to lack a spike in the toe region. Has anyone with FJ sandals felt off balance without that extra spike near the toe? Perhaps it is unnoticeable once you are on grass.
