Working at A Golf Course Tips?

I am going to be working at a golf course, and does anyone have any tips about working at one? I haven't started yet; but it'd be nice to get some tips before I start!

Well what are we talking here? Private club or public? Golf Shop or Outside Services? In either case, get to know names. At public, the regulars. At a private course, everyone. That goes a long way. Outside Services specific, be on the ball. We've got some lazy kids working at our course that have become complacent and that expect tips. Stay sharp and work for your tips. If you see a group pull up to the 18th green and its close enough to your station, go over there and clean some clubs. Your boss will appreciate the initiative.

Yep...it's all about customer service and hustling. If you start avoiding work you will be wondering why someone else is getting the glory (praise and tips if appropriate). Knowing names is huge. I worked outside as a cart rat and pulled out all the stops when I was in college and would make one third more than the guy that was complacent. People want to feel good and treating them with respect is a good lesson that will last your entire life. I use a lot of that customer service in my life now...it just makes everything so much easier.

I was a member of the greens keeping crew at my local Par 3 Private (it was just as nice as the towns official "country club") for 5 years and landscaped for 7 while I did that.. It depends on what work you will be doing if you have questions about operating machines or best practices let me know. Also you have to be respectable that is key people pay good money to golf and for the most part look good while they are doing it. Return the favor and they will treat you well, seem irresponsible/despondant/disrespectful to golfers and expect a long sh*tty job every single day you go in.

Also, Take advantage of free golf if you get it, thats how I started golfing and I gots the addiction now!

A mention of what the job is might be useful - but I notice you're already getting advice.

In the race of life, always back self-interest. At least you know it's trying.

      Feel like you are left side dominant. Keep the back of your glove running through impact. Keeps leading edge down without digging. You will pick them clean with some zip if the grass is nice and generally acceptable results off anything less than ideal. Works with both hingy or dead hand pitches and chips.

      Day 52 (30 Apr 26) - Had planned a solo round, got invited to be part of trio that included a fmr mini tour pro.  Was fun playing back a set of tees and having to stay in my game plan. Both were very engaging and encouraging in the round.  A good day in working through and making smarter shot choices.

      I mean, a golfer is trespassing and damaging property. So, golf rules don’t supersede state laws. 😉 Like, if it isn’t marked and is off golf property. The right thing to do is take an unplayable lie or take stroke and distance.  Also, this is a liability for the course. The homeowner could easily say the course is liable for damage done because they knowingly didn't mark their boundaries which allowed golfers to trespass and damage property.

      Interestingly enough, if the course (the Committee in Rules terms) doesn't mark the boundaries, there is nothing out of bounds.  I realize that neighboring homeowners would take a dim view of golfers whacking balls from their backyards, but that's what the Definition of Out of Bounds requires. "All areas outside the boundary edge of the course as defined by the Committee."
