As others have said this seems a weird thing to worry about. The ratings work things out with the HC. Obviously a good player who hits it short could sensibly play the shorter tees. And even if someone drives it 280, what do you care if they want to play driver/wedge into all but the longest par 4s?

Ideal distance for me is somewhere in the 6400-6800 range. I've played from the tips on my home course which is 7100 yards and enjoyed it but don't want to do it too often maily because I can't get anybody to play from there with me. Most of my playing partners are 20+ caps or old guys who can't even reach the fairway from back there. However, there are a couple of courses I play where the tips are only 6900 or so and I play the tips there. It definitely impresses the other guys out there.

When I play with my grandfather I play from the senior tees which is awesom for scoring!

...Do you respect them less because they are not playing the tips or do you not think it matters because each set of tees is rated differently and therefore correlates with their handicap? ...

Not sure what you're concerned about. The course rating and slope take care of this.

What do you mean by lower HDCP? 4... 12... Some golfers don't hit the ball that far. If they play the whites, where shorter distances allow them to capitalize on a good short game, they can shoot in the low 80s. If they play from the back tees, it's a couple of 450 yd. par 4s and a 607 yd. uphill par 5 for No. 18. Those are killers for someone who doesn't carry a legit 250 yds. on their drives. Congrats that you're a 6.7 HDCP. But it sounds like golf may be the only thing you do well in life, and you get your jollies from looking down upon less skilled golfers. I hope that's not your problem.

When Brad Faxon did his Playing Lessons With the Pros for the Golf Channel, he mentioned that he and his college golf buddies would play practice rounds from every set of tees. He said it makes you hit shots that you won't normally hit. So if you have a wedge into almost every green from the reds, you get to practice your wedge game. But if you're playing from tees so long that you don't have a chance to hit scoring shots into the par 4s, what's the point? 6400 yards suits me fine. I can play from 6800, but it's not that much fun. Forget 7000.

I go from the white... if you feel even that's not manly enough then I don't care. I'm simply not good enough to play from the blues at some of the courses I play at. I'd rather hit my 3 wood into the fairway from the whites and keep up a good pace than go searching for my god awful driver shot from the blues in the trees.

Favorite Course - Conklin Players Club (Par 72) - Best Score 86

This thread got me to wondering, so I played the back nine at my home course from the whites (my usual tees) and the blues today. I always thought I wasn't long enough to play from the blues, but I scored exactly the same....44 Heck if I'm gonna shoot a big number like that, it may as well be from a tee that is further back. My second nine from the blues could've been much better as I 3 putted 3 fricking times. There really isn't much difference between the tees, 3058 from the whites and 3371 from the blues, which works out to an average of 34 yards longer per hole. It actually gave me more room on the dog legs that I usually hit through even with a 3W and took some usual trouble out of play. I think I will give up the whites (6196 yards 68.8/122) and my next rounds will be from the blues (6876 yards 71.9/127). I would never play from the tips though as they are just too much for me (7621 yards 75.6/129).

I have seen guys that hit it 280 playing from the white tees because the rule is by handicap u decide where where u belong. If u cant break 90; why would u play from the tips? Then again; if u can hit 280; why hit from the whites? There are good players with low handicaps that cant even hit it 250.Do u put them back cause of their handicap? The one guy is right; your handicap is figured the same way by stating which tees u play from,so it figures up the same. So basically it's an etiquette thing,or a slow-play issue. I'ts gotta really slow down the play if someone is playing from the tips, who should'nt be.

    • It's been a remarkable slow start for me this year, but I finally cracked through with my first two birdies of the year over the weekend. Ironically they were the 18th at Community (Hills) GC Saturday and then No. 1 at Miami Shores on Sunday. Don't ask about the rest of them. For the purposes of the chart, I'll just use Miami Shores. Most of the golf I play any more is there and normally the front nine only.
    • 39-35 today for a +2 (74) on a 72.6/129. Struggled over the first few holes as I bogeyed five straight to start. Wasn't even striking the ball bad - just couldn't hit a green and didn't hit good chips + one penalty. Then I went -3 over the next 6 to save the round and then parred the last 7. Golf is fun.
    • The Holdovers. Birdie. I’m a big Paul Giamatti fan and felt this was an exceptional performance. The film has a great blend of comedy and heart felt drama.
    • I rewatched this last night on HBO Max, and I re-affirm this. I loved Dune Par 1. It finally brought Dune to the big screen in the best way possible. Dune Part 2 is so much better, which is impressive. I like the direction they went with the characters in the story compared to the books. It was brought up to date in a good way. Yea, I am glad to see that they are working on Dune Part 3.
    • I love Louisville Golf's Niblicks, which they made for me decades ago and I began using again, though I now replaced the shafts for whippier ones (see my recent post). Unlike your photo, mine had steel bottoms. Forget about eBay, Louisville still makes them. They work much better for me than the modern metal woods.
