Hey All...

I troll the forums here alot, and buy stuff semi regularly. I went for a pro fitting recently, and was suggested to get a set of Wishon 560mc's.

The problem is the cost was out of my price range, for a set of clubs that have no resale value in the case I am not happy with them one season in. My length and Lie are standard, my swing speed is about 85 MPH with my driver...

What are some comparable clubs to this, OR does anyone know where these can be found reasonably affordable. I am pretty handy, and would probably have no issues with shaft changes if needed (I have built electric guitars, done motor swaps on cars, and have a few other semi geeky hobbies that require percision and patience).

I was thinking of a used set of Mizuno's, as they seem to be the rage on here...

I want a forged club, but need the forgivenses of a cavity back. (I shoot about 100 when I am striking how i should)-

The Irons i use now are all over the place for angles, and the club fitter was amazed I was even shooting that with there variations-

Components clubs are also an option if I can buy the parts- I wouldn't mind taking a stab at club building too. Thanks in advance.

not familiar with Wishon 560mc's at all... but going by the price and the things you're looking for, there are a lot of options available to you.

Being that you have standard length and lie, I am not sure why you are set on forged irons. Perhaps its a personal thing, but if you can look aside forged vs cast, there are a slough of iron sets you can get for a GREAT price. For starters, take a look at previous year models that are on clearance from brands such as Callaway, Ping, Nike, TItleist... you get the idea.

What exactly is your budget? If you're looking for clubs around the $400 range, there are hundreds of cast irons that you can buy. Again, asking out of curiosity, why set on forged? forged really means nothing but the process in which the irons are made... playability wise, it adds no effect at all.

While forging doesn't really add much playability wise, it does produce a slightly different feel. If you're interested in Mizuno irons, I highly recommend you try some out. If you're looking for some game improvement irons, look at the Mizuno MX series. If you feel like you can handle a players iron and want a set that you can "grow with" look at the MP series. This is my personal opinion, but I don't think you can go wrong with Mizuno.

I know the differrence between the 2 processes... I tried the Wishon Cast club and the 560mc, and I just was more comfortable with the forged club- (This was before he told me which was which, so it wasn't a mental thing)- It also had a thinner top line, which gave me a bit of confidence.

I am using a set of Mactec NVG2 Mids now, and they are all over the place as far as lofts go- no where near the specs on the web site, and because they are Cast, i can do nothing but grin and bear it for now.

I am always amazed by the quickness of responses on this website- as i was typing this, I had 2 more replies. :)

I have no issues paying 600 bucks for a set of irons, so long as I will be able to use them, and have them grow with my game.

Plus just saying "Forged" sounds kind of bad ass...

Yeah- I was quoted around $650 for a set of the Wishons, which seemed like an awful lot of money for clubs that would be worth 1/3 that the second I walked out the door. I can spend $600, but I would like to spend less of course- Anyone know of a good place in Canada to scour for used clubs online? I am afraid of getting dinged at the border by customs...

When you say you shoot 100, I'm thinking you need some super game improvement irons. The first things that come to mind are Pings G15, K15, Rapture series irons.

As true as this may be, for some reason just using the forged irons gave me more confidence... I am looking into the MX-200's, and will swing some tommorrow. They are selling for about $400 used with shipping. Is this reasonable?

Hey All...

You're in same category as me. You might try some Callaway X20s or X22s. Stock shaft is Uniflex, which will work for both stiff and regular swings. Weight is between 106 and 120 grams.

Or, you might try some Titleist first-wave AP1s with the lighter weight Nippon steel shafts; see if you can find a trade-in. This would increase clubhead speed over Uniflex.
I want a forged club, but need the forgivenses of a cavity back. (I shoot about 100 when I am striking how i should)

If you can spring for it, try the Callaway X24s. If the forged actually does feel better to you, go for it. I really can't notice the difference, except on wedges.

...Components clubs are also an option if I can buy the parts- I wouldn't mind taking a stab at club building too. Thanks in advance.

Someone can put the components together for you if you want. Or, might ask a clubsmith to let you help out with assembly during a slow time. Clubmaking requires an investment of several hundred dollars in basic shop gear to be able to do it yourself.

If you try clubmaking and "get the bug," you might try one of Ralph Maltby's GolfWorks multi-day schools: http://www.golfworks.com/article.asp_Q_ai_E_494

Hmmm.. Has anyone here hit the Mizuno MX-950's? There is a set in town for $350 bucks... Seems a tad cheap, but used clubs here tend to go for less.

I have been extremely pleased with my Nike Ignite II's I bought from Dick's Sporting Goods for $300. Night and day difference in my ball striking with these compared to my old set of Rawlings RXP Irons that I used to think I was good at hitting. But I love these Nike's. No they may not be Nike's top dog in clubs but I think they're good quality and at the price well worth it, because I like you was still in need of a game improvement irons as I typically shoot high 90's.

If you like the Mizunos try the MP 52s and the MX 200s and 300s. You could go Titleist and try the AP2s or the AP1s. But the AP1s are not forged. Or maybe try Nike, the Vr Split Cavities might be up your alley.

I troll the forums here alot....

Hey All...

Hey man. I'm in Canada too & i just got a set of P3s from gigagolf for 153 shipped. Went throught their online fitting too. They're not forged & maybe not what you're looking for but there is some decent options out there.

Question, if you're shooting 100 when you strike it well, should you maybe be looking into a design a little more forgiving than the 560mc? Or is it a long term game improvement strategy? The 560's are beautiful heads, just maybe a little penal for a higher capper.

Ebay. Look up sweetspotgolf. They list stuff every 2 days. I've had nothing but positive experiences with them. Or check out torontogolfnuts.com or ottawagolf.com. Lots of clubs get moved through those 2 sites.

If you have no issues dropping a decent $$$ amount on sticks maybe your best bet would be to go the oem fitting of your choice. Go to a TM fitting & get some R9s. Forgiving with a reasonably thin topline & a good resale value.

Sorry- too used to fishing talk- I guess i meant troll as in the fishing sense? Wandering aimlessly through the ocean with rods in the water...

Thanks for all the input guys- The hunt still continues- more because I am cheap I guess, and after getting stung by my old irons, am a tad nervous too.

I was getting a "fitting" by a local club fitter, and I hit the MC560's pretty decent. He only had me try Wishon heads however, and when i asked about some OEM brands he got a little irrate. As much as I did like them, IF i hate them 2 months down the road, I am out $500 bucks as I see a few posts with people trying hard to sell them for $200. (There were 2 options - a new set with steel shafts for $700 Can, or a used set for the same amount with Aerotech Steelfibre i85's. )

    • Day 446 - 2025-12-20 Woke up early and got some swings in before teaching putting all day. Looking forward to doing the same tomorrow.
    • It's miles better, though.
    • Went up to Erie for a lesson. I still need to work on how I shift my weight into my right leg and turn into the right leg. I extend it too much and externally rotate it too much. That all causes me to over rotate the hips and cause weight shift issues in the downswing. I need to feel like my right leg gains flex (it doesn’t), and my knee cap faces forward. The right hip sinks back and right. I need a need a ton more internal rotation. I still have some right elbow issues in the backswing. The path is better, but too much right elbow bend. I need to maintain width in the right elbow and let my right shoulder retract more, let’s say at A3, which helps keep that right arm extended.
    • Day 130 12-20 Today was just swinging what i had and go from there. Did focus on getting to lead side. Recorded swings for lesson  and hit real balls.
