I just finished a week of some of the most piss-poor golf since I started taking the game seriously again four years ago. Nice 76 today, nice 75 yesterday. The 75 yesterday included five three-putts and my old Rossie finding a watery grave in the pond by 18 at my home course. I went and got a new putter last night, putted pretty well with it today, but then I forgot how to get the ball to the green. I'm not even going to waste my money playing in the Norfolk City Am in two weeks. F**k it.

Whenever I have five 3-putts I don't break 80.

You might as well send the rest of the clubs to Davey Jones' locker now because you suck so bad.

I think I can safely speak for 99% of this board in saying that I wish I sucked enough to shoot a 75.

Simply enough, +1. Then again, I'm just trying to gather up the courage to take my hacker style to a full 18 to even be able to say "Hey, I can shoot a ___ (three digit number)" lol

You lost some respect from me there. I hope you change your mind - whether you fully get your game back or not - and it was just frustration speaking there.

This may sound antagonistic and possibly boring but getting angry about shooting 75 even if you are a player with higher expectations points less to putting woes and more to the wrong attitude. Not an easy thing to fix though.

I've been in the same situation over the past week. I went from hitting my irons like a champ and crushing my drives straight down the middle to spraying my drives and getting inconsistent contact with my irons. That put me more in the 90 boat, though...

take a break homey

get your mind ready and your physical game will follow
dont hit balls, dont watch golf, do something different
play ball, go fishing do something un related

then come back to the range hit some wedges a few putts then get your a$$ back out there

everyone needs a break sometime....sounds like your due

and to those saying a 76 is good....not for a scratch golfer
the OP is used to shooting a few under or a few over, so a 76 really is a blah round for him

you'll find it again man, have faith

the only problem is that you don't "suck" when you're shooting that number...you're just having a rough stretch. a 76 is pretty decent for anyone not getting paid to swing a brand of clubs and/or winning hundreds of thousands of dollars.

My philosophy on golf "We're not doing rocket science, here."

You threw your putter in the water? You DO suck.

Regardless of whether you are a scratch or a 30, since when is posting a round 3 or 4 strokes over your handicap considered terrible? Isn't that actually standard?

Ah man.. if you suck then I must really suck :(

Seriously though, I'm just starting out in the world of golf but I play other sports to a high level. In any sport we all have our ups and downs. It's the nature of the beast.

Well put. I shot a 76 the other day and was very happy with my round. Of course, I played a 73.8/149 course when I did it. Still, I only hit 8 greens. All said, it wasn't a good round but at any level, a 76 isn't a terrible, "I'm gonna quit" kind of round.

I played 27 today and had some improvement - not necessarily score-wise, but I am starting to gain confidence with the new putter (when I line up and do things the right way, the ball goes where it's supposed to, as opposed to just jumping off the face like my old one). There's definitely a high frustration level there, as I basically made $50 in blitz donations Friday and Saturday. I think a lot of it boils down to not wanting to give money away on the course, which is what I've been doing the past few weeks.

    • Day 3 - mirror swings/drills after my workout. Two seemingly good feels for me: feel like as the club reaches the top the weight of it/momentum of it pointing left initiates my "fall" into the lead side. Helps initiate the re-centering and some of the pressure shift. The second feel is like: as soon as the re-centering is over, begin to lighten the trail foot by feeling like my right knee in the beginning of the downswing essentially replaces where my left knee was at the top. This helps halt my sometimes ludicrous slide and greatly helps me get open.
    • Day 48 (17 Jun 25) - Into the net work today with the 5i - focus remains on the setup and proper weight shift.  Was not a perfect session as several were very heavy along with a couple of thin boys.  Finished up the day with a few pitches with the 52 (last set of 5 hitting to about 40 yds had 4 of the 5 in a 5’ circle (now if I could just do that on the course) - the errant one was a total mishit).
    • Day 260 - 2025-06-17 Played seven holes before it started thundering and then raining. Some good. Simpler.
    • Oh so that's how it's going to be. .... And to think I was going let you get away with wearing a white belt this weekend.
