When Phil is hitting driver and you're down range wear a helmet and some body armor!!! Phil has got to hold the record for most spectators hit! The guy has pegged more people within the last two tournaments than I think I've ever seen in my life! Hahaha, it's pretty funny actually. I've found myself counting on that instead of him hitting fairways recently!
Anyone else amused by this? If the guy weren't the best recovery player in The game he would most definitely be one of the worst...

I think its pretty pathetic myself. They might want to start a new stat like SHL or SHR.

He's both amusing and frustrating. He sprays it all over the place and slowly birdies his way down to a respectable score, then hits a hole where he can't recover well and double bogeys. It's up and down all the time with that guy (no pun originally intended).

Maybe we should stop yelling "Fore" and start yelling "Phil!" hahaha

Don't get me wrong, I actually like Phil Mickelson, but I have to admit he's about as overrated as it gets right now. Although everytime he misses a fairway as bad as he does, it really makes me feel ok about my game. Haha

Overrated? He's No. 2 in the world. He won the Masters. He's wild off the tee-but he is who he is.

TIGER WOODS ranked DEAD LAST in fairways hit in this PGA Championship.

Oh, wait, this is a Phil bashing thread... Uh... Phil eats cheeseburgers in his sleep. There, whew.

I guess teaching Phil to drive it straight is a lost cause, when you look at his stats (even 15 years back) he mostly ranked below Top 100 in Driving accuracy. He better keeps hitting them long at least...

At least he signs gloves with "cute faces" when he hits one - i guess Phil carries around gloves like other people balls - in the dozen :)

Haha, I like that suggestion.

Except that he's missing the fairway because he's throwing himself into the drive to get it 310 yards down there. If he dialed it back and drove an average PGA TOUR distance I bet his fairways hit would increase noticeably.

Nah, not a bashing thread. The guy's antics off the tee are just amusing. Sure some people dislike his game for it, but ohiolefty's the only guy voicing against him. He's just funny.

I definitely agree with you. I think if he dialed it down a bit he would still be "long." 280 yds. seems pretty good to me. Haha

I know he's ranked #2 in the world, I just think the ranking system in general is flawed... Obviously... I mean I like Tiger Woods, but he's not even close to being the best player in golf right now. And although Phil has won a major, that's all he's won this year, so how does that make him "better" than a couple of the 2 time winners? I'm just sayin...

Most tour pros go through 3-4 gloves per round. as soon as their gloves get just a little bit a sweat soaked into them they pull out a new one. So they always have plenty. I don't have that luxury because gloves aren't cheap either at almost $15-$20 per glove for a decent one.

Phil is my favorite player. He can be wild... but at the same time, when he's on his game... he's on, and birdies come in bunches. Lefty is the man. Dustin Johnson is pretty sick too, wish I could hit it as far as he does.

Sure take away Gerald Fords only claim to golf fame, hitting spectators. Actually I believe that his desire to crank it way out there is consistent with his on course agressive nature. Maybe he is just a showman, likes making the crowd go wow with long drives and spectacular recovery shots. If you took that away from him he might actually play much worse. Percentage players get uncomfortable with to much risk, gamblers lose interest when they aren't taking any. If he tried the smart play and hit a poor shot it would probably drive him crazy.
