Read a story about 2 LPGA players during this weeks Canadian Open, playing the wrong ball on the last hole, realizing it while on the green and trying to cover it up, signing the wrong scorecard, but after one caddy threatening to expose them, they seem to confess and get DQ´ed from the tournament.

http://www.geoffshackelford.com/home....html#comments

A DQ from a tournament for trying to collude and cheating on purpose? That seems to be a bit on the other side of extremes what we have seen so far, and imo whoever tries to cheat on purpose in a professional environment should receive a lot harsher penalty than just a simple DQ.

What do you guys think?

Wow. I had not heard a thing about this and have been watching the tournament on GC. I would have thought that pretty serious infractions and some comment would have been made on some of the sports channels. Of course the temptation to cheat is always, there but honesty and integrity are the foundation of the golf game. I suppose if you make a living at the game it might even be more tempting.

Here's one comment at the bottom of the link by a poster.

"Dustin Johnson, Inkster, Furyk and now these two...some streak we've got."

To put these 2 in the same sentence with Johnson, Inkster and Furyk is ridiculous, at least on the surface. But not according to the rules of golf. They all get the same penalty. That is the ridiculous part. But as some say.......rules are the rules.

Well, i´m sure Johnson didnt step into the bunker and said to himself, well - screw the rules, i´m going to ground my club, neither did Inkster when she applied the device to their club. So in their mind, they were acting within the rules of the game. But they violated them and got penalized - thats how it works.

But those two ladies KNEW they were acting outside the rules and didnt care - they even tried to cover it up - so thats a whole different matter and therefor the consequences, at least imo, should be different, for ANYBODY who tries to pull such a stunt.

I think the LPGA needs to talk to all parties involved and if they knowingly signed a false scorecard and turned it in they need to suffer some harsh penalties. The collusion aspect makes it more troublesome.

In a game based on honesty and integrity, they should have a much harsher penalty that just tournament DQ. My opinion atleast a one year suspension from the tour. That is ofcourse if they are guilty of what is being implied.

I too think a suspension is warranted, but let's not forget that these two ladies will likely forever be known as cheaters, and in pro golf, that's a penalty in and of itself.

Nobody's going to think of Juli or Dustin (and duh, not Furyk of course) as cheaters. So putting these in the same sentence is, agreed, NOT warranted.

P.S. MSDOGS, Dustin got a two-stroke penalty. Furyk wasn't Rules of Golf, but rather Rules of the PGA Tour [he wasn't DQed, he was "DNSed"], and only Juli suffered a DQ, which is the harshest penalty one can hand out.

Knowlingly cheating should be rewarded with suspension. LPGA doesn't have the balls to suspend Korean players because of the "Racist" label which will be used. If it were two US players, you know damn well a suspension would be applied.

Has anything actually been confirmed yet? Lets not jump to conclusions.

They were DQed, yes. They played the wrong ball(s), signed their cards, and were DQed, yes, that's known.

And the LPGA is launching an investigation into this, too.

I love the quote as well.

I believe Shi Hyun Ahn and Ilmi Chung are the two players in question. One has won over $100,000 this season and the other just over $19,000.

I would hope that is not true and that these two will be treated the same as if their name was Paula, Cristie, or Morgan. What they did is pretty egregious and damaging to the game if unpunished. Colluding to cheat is certainly worth a suspension of playing privileges for a period of time.

Kinda sad........... I saw what Jane Blalock went through. They are toast.

Apparently two Korean players accidentily played each others ball from the fairway on the 18th hole but didn't say anything until after the score cards were signed (and possibly only then once it was clear that somebody else was going to say something). They also apparently had a brief "discussion" in Korean on the 18th green and one of the players said to her caddy "you didn't see anything" -- whether that was a statement or a question is in debate.

If it is true that they knew they played the wrong ball and agreed not to say anything or penalize themselves, what should their punishment be?

Banned for life? Banned for 2 years? Other?

2-3 years. What they are accused of doing is egregious and 100% contrary to the rules AND spirit of the game.

I am surprised the other players aren't demanding their heads on a platter (or maybe they are, in private).

I've been down in a hazard where nobody could see me and accidentally grounded my club. I called the penalty on myself. I am NOTHING SPECIAL - golfers do this all the time. What they did, if they did it, was really bad.

Why the hell is every article and blog mentioning racism. If you dont bring it up then it doesn't exist. Seriously. 2 golfers cheated. We know that. They may have conspired too. Why mention their race or anything else? I hate it when bad things happen people mention race and equally when good things happen too. Like when a black coach won the superbowl. So what? Why even mention it. Is it harder for him to win because he's black? NO. He's not mentally challenged. Why reduce him to just a color. Why reduce these 2 cheating dirtbag collusionists to just a race? If I was Korean I'd be PISSED that mention of my great country was in the same article as this cheating scandal. In this story they're golfers who cheated. That's it. leave it at that. Yeah they're a different race then.. Me.. So what? This countrys got every god damned race even invented living in it and doing just fine. So maybe they have rice instead of toast. Who cares?

    • Are these course getting easier? are the players getting better? should we not worry about tournaments that used to produce single digit winners are now producing course records year after year.  I am not talking roll back I am just curious why scores are so much lower than five to ten years ago.
    • I've posted plenty of positive things about Tiger over the years. I just like to play fair.  But if you want to see me praise TW some more here you go: 12 wins by 7 shots or more - Jack had 4 3 separate win streaks of 5 or more in a row - Jack won 3 in a row once It took Jack 172 more events and 9 extra years to reach Tiger's 71 wins by 2009 TW is the only player since 1900 to win a major by double digits and he did it twice 30% peak win rate is even higher than the previous record holder Ben Hogan (25%) 11 time PGA Tour Player of the year - Jack had 5 12 times lead the Tour in wins - Jack 6 10 times money list leader - Jack 8 Jack officially has 73 wins, but 2 of them are team wins with Arnie. You could argue he should be listed with 71 and I wouldn't disagree.
    • I mean that's clearly an opinion.  The funny thing is I never even attacked Tiger, I just pointed out that the other poster had a point when he mentioned that Jack had a longer career. Tiger basically had 5 years when he could have been winning more tournaments if not for his injuries. 2010-2011 and then again 2015-2017. Hard to make the argument after his final win because not many players win a ton after age 43.  If those numbers support the fact that Jack had a longer career so be it. Don't take that as an affront to Tiger.
    • Just getting back into golf after a 30 year break from the game. Hoping to get some advice and insight on becoming a decent player.    Right now I'd be hard pressed to break 95
    • Even injured Tiger had a more impressive career than Jack against much stiffer competition. This was confirmed by Jack quite a few times. You want to ignore that, but it’s fact.
