Iron shots are generally a straight line to the left. On a good day I end up 5+ yards to the left. It feels like I am fighting the offset on my clubs. I have Cleveland XLI irons. Until I put the video camera on my swing to see what is going on, anyone have suggestions for game improvement irons with less offset than the XLIs?

It won't be the offset on your irons, it will be your swing. People use the excuse of too much offset the justify getting blades or whatever. Not saying you want blades, just that it won't be the club that's causing the issues at your level.

What I Play:
Wilson Mini Stand Bag | PING G10, 10.5°, Proforce V2 HL S | PING G5, 15°, 18°, Aldila NV 75 S | PING G5, 19°, Aldila VS Proto By You 80 S
Mizuno MX200 4-PW S | Ping Tour W 50/12 X | Ping Tour W 58/TS X | A selection of putters, all 35.5 inches.

Left hand grip (strong vs weak) perhaps inhibiting or emphasizing a proper release of the club through the impact zone?

Outside to in combined with a strong grip will make you pull everysingle time. You never know if you're doing that unless you ask someone to watch you.

It may even be something as simple as your stance is open to the target.

Try practicing with an alignment aid. All the pro's do it. We Amatuers should too.

I have used an alignment tool and that isn't where I am off. The strong grip is a tip worth pursuing. Thanks.

There's so many reasons you might be hitting left, most of them I don't even know about. I work with my teacher a lot on not flipping or releasing the clubhead early. That is the cause of most of my pulls. The thing is, the same moves can cause pushes, too and lots of other things can cause pushes and pulls so it's really a good idea to get that video posted - or even a lesson - before forking over the $$ for new gear.

Gotta agree with most the posts here. The offset, to the degree that it contributes to your shots going left (if at all), is probably the smallest contributor. Grip, stance, swing etc. are your culprits.

Take a read through some of the ball flight threads, as well as a look at this video to make sure your interpreting your results and swing properly:

A straight pull (little sidespin) is the result of a out-to-in swing path with a clubface that is essentially square to the swingpath. If this is the case, your offset isn't hurting you here and the problem is likely a swing issue. Post a video and we'd be glad to help.

Also, offset should only promote a draw, not provoke a straight pull.

Offset may keep hands forward a bit, but it is unlikely to cause a pull. If the lie on your club is to upright for you, especially on short irons, that would be a more likely contributor.
