The subject line is joking, but I think its kind of cool to look back at some old tournaments of mine and see mine name is relation to current tour pros, specifically Hunter Mahan and Jeff Overton. I actually know Overton (via my college golf teammates) and played with him a couple times, but this was back in 2002.

btw - Mahan back at the Kiawah Island tournament didn't wear golf shoes, he wore tennis shoes ha.

anyone else had a chance to see their name with someone famous (whether its golf, celebrities, or other athletes?

The subject line is joking, but . . .

I taught a current NHL player (and former Stanley Cup champion) how to ride a bike and throw a nice tight spiral with a Canadian football - extremely relevant in his current occupation.

Off topic, but I've seen a few Pros who come from the rough area I live. Between my town and the three towns that border it (Frisco, Plano, McKinney, and The Colony), I think I've counted 3 or 4 pros between the list you showed there and guys who qualified for the Championship.

Which player? I'm curious now.

I've been interviewed by Jeff Kriet (runner up at Bassmaster Classic) and sat and talked fishing with him for about 15 minutes. That was about as cool to me as meeting a pro athlete.

I had a class with Dickey Pride at the University of Alabama and I made a bunch of double and triple bogeys on the hole that Jason Bohn aced to win the million dollars at Alabama.

My physical therapist was Mike Willett a few months ago. He was the therapist for the main guy in the book Paper Tiger, if any of you have read it.

I've never played with anyone famous yet. I hope to soon though!

Did you play your college golf in Indiana somewhere? I'm in SE Indiana about 1 1/2 hour from Indy.

Not me, but a friend of mine lived in Myrtle Beach and worked at a golf course. Talked about playing with this guy who had just started on tour. Guy could absolutely kill it. Yeah...Dustin Johnson. Meanwhile, I play golf with the meat department guy from Kroger.

I was fortunate enough to play darts against 7 former world champion darts players. And 1 former PGA pro. Jodie Mudd was at the same bar as me about ten years ago. He saw me playing and came over and asked for a game. It was funny, because I didn't recognize him at first. He had a full beard and looked like Happy Gilmore's caddy. But it was great to meet him and have a good game of darts. Much better than some old autograph.

PGA Championship.

My bad, I was looking at the list of PGA Pros who were trying to qualify. I found the list of pros who made the cut and the only near-by one was Bruce Smith, from my home town. In the qualifier game, though, there were two or three others within 30 miles of me. Hunter Mahan's profile doesn't say where he currently resides, but it does say he grew up in the McKinney area. Neat.

    • It may not have been block practice, though, is one of the main points here. You may have been serving and from the same place, but you were likely trying to do slightly different things. It seems that would only be blocked practice if you were trying to hit the same exact ball hit to you to the same exact place in the far court. I'm not sure that's as random as if the ball that you're given to hit is at different places, too, but again…
    • I played tennis in college. I thought block practice was great for serves because you were starting the point and  you could easily adjust where you wanted to place the ball based off the same motion. I equate those to tee balls. I despised block practice for groundstrokes once you reached a certain level and your fundamentals were good. To me, hitting a 100 crosscourt backhands in a row was silly because I would never do that in a match. I needed to randomize it by hitting some deep, some angled, all with different speeds and spins. I share that same thought about iron play. Because we seldom hit the same approach shots hole after hole, I prefer to practice irons randomly.
