Hoffman won by 12 over Tiger with a final 62 this week (just mentioning it since everything non-Tiger seems to be forgotton rather quickly) - there are other people out there that can play well too, especially if they dont have to fear the KittyCat anymore.

What if he does win this weekend? A lot of guys were sh***ing the bed down the stretch last weekend and as much as I find Hoffman an interesting character, he's never won back to back, so odds aren't in his favour.

You mean Hoffman winning, again? No way. As it is right now, print out the field, throw a dart at it and your odds of picking a winner is probably just as good going after it with statistics or logic. Its wide open (and in some sense, even Tiger could win ;) ) as it has been pretty much the entire season i would say.

Yes I do realize that he won by 8 strokes last year at BMW and so did he at Buick in 2008. I just think that field has caught up to Tiger even though I realize that he hasn't been playing well. As of late some names are very common on top of the leaderboard and are capable of playing right along with Tiger.

So who thinks the 3rd round leader will choke again on Sunday. This has been quite a theme as of late on the PGA from what I have been watching. Some meltdowns and some just not getting anything going.

nope, the league hasn't caught up with tiger's potential. tiger right now isn't playing to his potential, but if he were, it would still be like the old days. case in point, tiger has had the lowest stroke avg. 9 of the last 11 years. two years he had a stroke avg. of 67, nobody has yet to come close to that, ever. he won't have the lowest avg. this year, but i can guarantee whoever does won't touch that number either.

Steve Stricker and Matt Kuchar are the current leaders at 69.61 which is nowhere near 67. Tiger is still shooting a respectable scoring average of 70.36 in his "off year". He led the scoring average with the 67.xx in 2000 and 2007. Only six times has a players averaged under 69 in the past 12 years other than Tiger Woods. Even with this said my

opinion has not changed in the fact that the field has caught up with him. I believe there are guys that can stay with him day 1-3 on his good days but just can't close out. Back on topic, I think Stricker, Furyk, or ZJ will take it this week. Of course I'm still cheering for the big hitters like Bubba and Dustin Johnson. Would like to see Tiger and AK somewhere on the first page of the leaderboard as well.

The field has caught up with a mentally demolished Tiger, not the real Tiger.

Of course the field catches up with him - every year he gets older. He even admits this himself. Golf might be a sport that you can play competitvly into a high age - that doesnt mean you can reconnect with your old glory days in your prime when you are 10/20 or 30 years older.. Especially now as all the events are setup as power courses. Bomb it or go home - sadly.

Plus, there are a lot more that can shoot really good scores. Tiger has to beat more guys than he used to.

I think it will be cool to see a line graph of everyone's scoring average over the last two years next to Tigers, they didn't catch up, he just fell down. :|

He's won this event a lot, including last year

His game is coming around, good finishes last few events

He knows the course

He's good on Rees Jones' tracks

He got picked for the Ryder Cup and is probably in a postive state

He wants to win, badly.

He's won a lot of tournaments on a lot of courses, so this list could be fit almost every week. I say pick him every - even a broken clock is right twice a day.

Except he's been in a 'slump' and is coming around, it's a Rees Jones course, he got picked for the Ryder Cup this week, he won the event last year, then yes, every week you could say it.

Ryan Moore has supplanted Justin Rose as the best player on tour (if tournaments ended on Thursday). Some of his leaderboard tumbles this year include:

Phoenix Open: 66-66-74-68 (T14)
Players Championship: 67-70-71-80 (T47)
PGA Championship: 69-76-72-76 (T65)
Deutsche Bank Championship: 64-76-70-76 (T67)

Fittingly, he went out this morning and shot a 64. Let's see if he can stay in contention this time; he'll need to to qualify for East Lake.

You should check Mike Weir's Thursday v. Sunday scoring average. Grab a bucket - you'll wanna hurl.

      Day 27 (7 Dec 25) - Got in a few swings with 9i and hard foam balls in backyard.  Setup weight fwd (rebuilt left foot really lets me feel the weight in a slightly painful way) - kept the backswing to around 9 o’clock focusing on contact and resulting divot pattern.  Like how the hard foam balls come off the face (almost like real balls in sound).  A good abbreviated session as I only able to hit about a dozen balls in the fading light.

      Not the part I was replying to: Handicaps did not go down much (like 0.14 on average IIRC?) when we went from 10/20*0.96 to 8/20. And a good chunk of that was from the +s.

      I think he meant in the UK. The old system was completely different from the new one. 10/20 x 0.96 vs 8/20 would really only impact very low handicaps I think. The 0.96 serves to increase differentials for plus differentials, where 8/20 vs 10/20 works to lower differentials for all. I don't know many plus golfers who would be upset that their index got lower. A lot of really good players don't even really keep their handicaps up-to-date. They're much more interested in their WAGR rankings which get them entries to certain events.
