I have struggled with my driver a bit this season & I can't quite put my finger on what I am doing incorrectly so I wanted to see if you guys can help me out. Sorry the video is a bit shaky; let me know if I need to try to get a better quality video.

As an FYI - Swings #1 & #3 were dead straight. Swings #2 & #4 faded 15-20 yards.

Any advice is welcome! Thanks!

Any chance you could do a slo-mo of the vid?
And rest the camera on something, it keeps shaking (can't draw lines).

go to 0:44, your left arm is bent near impact.
While straightening it will probably give you a little extra distance, if you don't time it spot on you'll mess up.

Nice smooth swing though

I can retake the videos without someone holding the camera. Do you know how to make these slo-mo. I tried and don't see a feature for it in Windows Movie Maker..

there is one, I haven't used it in a year but it's something like "half frame speed" or something like that.

At no time during your set up do you look at your target, which means you don't have a target, so how do you know they were straight?

This is my home range. I spend hours every day staring at the same pole in the distance. I know just by the placement of my feet that I am aimed directly at it. I didn't stop and look at the target in between each swing because I didn't want to post a super long video, so I did speed up my normal routine a bit.

Aside from your worries about my aim, any constructive criticism on my swing? As I look at the videos over and over ( I am going to get a better quality vid this week ) it seems that my hips are really moving through the ball aggressively... I don't know though.

Your hips move backwards on the backswing and your head moves well forward on the downswing.

Looks to me like you are keeping your hands too inside on your downswing. Like your pulling it big time. Get those hands further away from your body on the downswing. Just my opinion though, WTH do I know.

Your shoulders are open at address, the clubhead is well inside your hands on the backswing, and you're first move is over the top.

I think you have a massive over the top move. You are not hitting through the ball.

Regarding the aim point I made, it is important that you do on the range what you do on the course, otherwise, what are you practising? Your pre-shot routine should involve a look at your target. Y

You hit the ball 30+ degrees left of where you aim.

His worries about your aim are justified.

As far as the swing... You can see in the right photo that the clubhead is entirely outside the ball, and this is prior to impact, indicating a massive outside-to-in move (which corresponds to the 30° pull).

No offence, but you have a typical slicer swing that 95% of amateurs have. Your first move is rolling the club open with your hands followed by taking the club inside, then lift it and come over the top. Work on getting your takeaway on plane. When you take the club inside like you do, you´ll have a tendency to come over the top. For you it should feel like you´re taking the club back way outside and then dropping it inside on the downswing.

Golf is a game in which the ball always lies poorly and the player always lies well.

Thanks for the advice guys. I have struggled this season unfortunately.... Hopefully seeing my mistakes and your tips will help me get back on track.

    • Probably since the golfer has to swing the club back and up. The hands have to move back and up. You can feel them go back and up just by turning the shoulders and bending the right arm, because it brings your hands towards your right shoulder.  The difference is if you maintain width or not. Less width means a shorter feeling swing path so the more you need to lift the arms. Being as someone who gets the right arm bend at 110+ degrees, it's 100% a timing issue. I am use to like a 1.5+ second backswing. It probably should be like 1 second at most. Half a second or more will feel like an eternity. I have had swings where I keep my right arm straighter and I am still trying to time the downswing based on the old tempo.  Ideally, for me, it is probably going to be a much quicker and shorter (in duration) backswing, while keeping the right elbow straighter. Which also means more hinging to get swing length without over swinging.

    • I'm currently recuperating from surgery, so no golf, but have been thinking about this quite a bit. This and the don't overbend the right arm thing. It's hard for me to even pose the position, so I'm not 100% sure, but I feel like it's impossible to have the right humerus along the shirt seam and not overbend your right arm, unless your hands are down near your hips. If the left arm is up at or above the shoulder plane and your right arm is bent less than 90 degrees, then your right humerus has to raise or your hands will get pulled apart. Your left hand can't reach your right hand unless either the right upper arm is up or the right arm is overbent. Is that right? If it is, then focusing on not overbending the right arm would force you to raise the humerus. And actually thinking further on it, if you do overbend your right arm, then you're basically forcing your upper arm down or forcing your left arm to bend. Since (for me at least) bending the left arm too much is not something I think I need to worry about, it means that the bend in the trail arm is really the driving force behind what happens to the right humerus.
    • I managed to knock off a 3, a 13, and a 15 a couple of weeks ago. The 3 was a 185 yard par 3 with a 6 iron to 12 feet. 13 was a 350 yard par 4, which was a 2 iron and a 9 iron to about a foot. 15 was a 560 yard par 5 with a driver in a bunker, 4 iron into the semi, gap wedge to 8 feet and a putt.
