Had a downhill 505 yd par 5. Absolutely smoked my drive, then proceeded to hit an awesome three iron shot. Left myself pin high, only trouble was I happened to be about 20yds away from the hole and there was a bunker between the green and myself. Hit one more sweet shot; a pitch that landed on the fringe and proceeded to roll within 2 feet of the pin.

Feeling pretty damn good and slightly pompous I walked up to the flagstick drawing my putter out of my bag. I didn't bother to take the bag off.

Missed the putt. Tapped in for par.

Any three putt on a par 5 that I reached in two....

Same here. One particular instance comes to mind, 12 feet from the pin with a putt for eagle. This was about 2 years ago when I was first really getting into the game, and this was my first real chance to eagle. I choke on the 12 footer, leaving it 6 feet short, then miss the 6 footer.

Still have never eagled.

You crushed that drive!

I did, for me - it had a ball flight I have not been able to reproduce. Low, climbing, and very fast. Also, I hugged the inside of the dogleg and drew around it -- I am sure that cut a bunch off the length of the hole.

Once a year this happens on various short par 4s: Drive goes in creek, or into some unplayable lie situation.

I take a one-stroke penalty and drop out, and then put a short iron a foot from the cup. Tap-in par, could have been birdie.

Focus, connect and follow through!

ive done this sort of thing many times.

sometimes ill bang it 300 yards down the fairway...and only be 50-60 yards out..then i go in for double bogey..lol

but not often.

on par 5's i usually par them or come close to birdie, the other day i had a chance for birdie on a par 5...missed it and got par...was bummed out...everyone said..nice par...i thanked them and in my mind i was breaking my club over my knee..lol

YESTERDAY Dammit. Hole one. Olomana golf course. Tee off from the blues. No warm up no stretching nothing. Just went and teed off at about 130pm. I've played this course 20 times over the past year and a half mind you. Half the time starting on ten though. Slight dog left left. I drive the fairway and I've got about 210 left to the hole. Sheesh I'm thinking I really need some distance on my driver. I thought I hit it ok. Borrow my friends 20* nickent hybrid and say I'll drop it right in front of the green and chip on close for a par putt and be out of it. So I drop it in front about 30 yards short. Not bad. Go to my 56* and drop it to within 6 feet. Ok. Putt for par. I dont care. I was down on myself and missed by an inch. Oh well. I tap in, and my playing partner says "nice par" I say No, that was 5. And he goes yeah no kidding. Nice par. It's a par 5 stupid.
So it turned out that it was a good smart well payed par, Fairawy hit twice and a G.I.R and I was happy after I realized I didnt bogey but I was bummed the whole hole. lol

    • Day 146: 5/21/24 Putting through gates for distance control and chipping practice indoors.
    • For general practice, this ratio is what I'd recommend: Making real changes in the golf swing is hard for everybody. Make sure you're practicing properly. A good topic on that subject is here: I have limited time for practice, too. I also find I enjoy doing full swing work more than anything else so that's what I always end up spending most of my time doing. Lately I have found that just doing some basic short game motions in my office is enough for me to improve my short game and that's kind of opened up a new area of practice for me because it literally takes a few minutes out of my day. Now if I can figure out how to practice my putting inside of 10' I might actually be decent at this game. Welcome to TST.
    • day 68. Technique work into the net. Lots of rehearsal and slow swings with a ball trying to understand how to achieve a flat wrist at impact. 🤷‍♂️
    • Day 20 (21 May 24) - Played 18 with a couple of friends at one of the nearby courses…a personal course best of 84.  A lot of greenside up and down scrambling including a number of bunker shots….
    • I’m sure I’m not the only one here with a family and limited practice time. That being said, I’m in the process of making what feels like major swing changes.  Primarily, my issues are a late loading backswing and passive arms that lead to a steep downswing that relies a lot on timing. I’ve been swinging with these faults for a while so making the changes has been extremely challenging.  With limited practice time, how much time should I spend implementing these changes via drills and slow intentional swing feels compared to practicing different aspects such as my drives, approaches, wedge shots and short game? I’d be fine hitting bucket after bucket just working on drills but can’t figure out if that would be the most beneficial to my game.  Thanks for the help!
