Putter Shopping

Over the past few months, I've been in the market for a new putter. I currently have my dad's old putter, which I think is an old PING anser or something like that, but its pretty beat up and not the best feeling to me by far.
I'm now looking at two particular putter models which I've both hit in the instore putting green at golfsmith, and on outdoor turfgrass at a driving range place.
1) Nike Method 001
2) Scotty Cameron Newport 2
I know I know, I can almost hear you now saying, "Nike? What? Making a decent putter?" But trust me, if you haven't hit it before. It feels almost undescribable when you make solid, flush contact with the polymetal grooves.
Also, I'm sure many of you reading this have hit or are currently using a SC Newport 2 or similiar model.
My opinion, both feel great, but the Nike feels almost insertish like with its new groove technology, a softer feel than the SC's full milled face.
So, I am wondering if anyone has any insight on these two putter, or one, on what you think would be the best choice.

If you like the feel of an insert, you could try a pre-owned SC Studio Style Newport 2 and save yourself some $$$.

alot of people like the method and at the same time alot of people dont. To me when I held it it felt very different for a blade putter, almost too techy feeling if that makes sense but then again stuart cink was making 100 footers today with one

Something tells me you are a bit too influenced by their marketing :P Get the Method, people with OCD will give you odd looks with an all nike bag and an scotty.

I think they are both great putters, the method has a great feel and sound but I don't like the dot on the topline, I need a sight line. The Nike certainly offers good value for money

Yea. If you couldn't tell, you could propably count me into that group of OCDs. (Username :NIKEman6, NIKE bag, all NIKE clubs -exluding putter as of now-) But this raises the question, why don't we all give Tiger weird looks for carrying a SC (other than at the British Open when he used the Method due to slower greens) while he has all Nike clubs, clothing line, and is pretty much Nike's main man.
But I'm not ruling out the SC, I want a high quality putter, that will consistently perform to my standards and give me the best roll possible, regardless of brand.

Too techy feeling for a blade putter? What is that even supposed to me?

Just know that the Method has 2° of loft compared to the 4° of loft on the Scotty Cameron. You could always get the Scotty Cameron adjusted to 2° but Nike will not adjust the loft from the factory. The 2° of loft is what really helps the ball roll forward faster. I like the feel of the SC better on lag putts but I sink more short/mid range putts with the Method.

If you've actually done some homework and eliminated putters from Odyssey, Cleveland, Rife, Wilson Staff, etcetera after trying them (i.e you're not just waiting for Tiger to pick a team), then you can't go wrong either way

I toyed around with some Method putters and didn't like them. It rolls the ball well...but the weighting was off, the stock grip is terrible and cheap feeling (I know this could be changed). I wasn't a fan. If I was going to drop 300 bucks on an Anser-style-putter for its own sake, I'd get a Scotty Cameron or one of Odyssey's tour-milled models....Or, I'd go get an Anser-style putter that's actually a PING Anser and spend 2/3 as much money for something that's a damned good putter; probably as good as a sticker-driven-price model.

yea thats what I felt, the weighting was weird on it and its big for a blade putter, lots of hard edges. Looks and feels like something from star wars, but most nike putters feel like that. What I mean by techy, is it doesnt feel natural, too much stuff thrown into it.

It is larger than some other blade style putters but it is well balanced. What do you mean by too much stuff thrown into it? The grooves in the front are the only things thats thrown into it and you can't see that at address. I hate the Nike grips on my irons and wedge but I love the grip on my putter. If it ever wears out, I would regrip it with the same grip if possible. I like the feel of a Scotty or Method over the Ping Anser since they don't feel as harsh.

I actually love the feel of the grip and weight for that matter, but I guess that's more personal preference than anything.

Considering you seem to be a bit of a Nike fan (probably an understatement), I think you should go with the Method since you seem to like it as much as the Cameron. They seem like they are good putters and if you like the weight, grip, the way it rolls, etc. then I think it'd be a good choice.

Hey all,
I have the final verdict, if you want to call it that.
I've decided, and yes, for a little while I was leaning towards the Odyssey White Hot Tour #9, but then went back to the Method because I've always played anser styles putters and it feels great.
Anyways, I'm going to purchase my Method 001 tomorrow after school. :D

If you like the feel of an insert putter, like you said, why are you not looking at putters with inserts? Is there a downside to them?

Either way, the White Hot #9 felt good, but as I said, I'm not crazy about the non-anser style on it. To me, I like the feel of the inserts, but they almost seem too soft for me, if that's possible. I like the responsiveness of milled putters, but the feel of inserts. To me, this is pretty much the best of both worlds right now. The polyurethane filled grooves give it soft feel, but the combination of the poly fill and milled groves give it good feedback as well. (almost what you would expect from a Scotty) --typed in my microsoft office class at school ;D--
