100% disagree. I can remain balanced but move my head well to the right on the backswing. Guess what? The head weighs a lot and it's going to take a lot of energy over a short period of time to move all that weight back to where it should be.

I understand where you are coming from I based most of my own swing on Jim Hardy's book and have only made minor changes since so S&T shares the same mechanics of not shifting away from the ball.I believe if you go to far to the right are you really balanced when most of your weight is in the right leg.My own personal view is if you leave the centre of the hips where your weight is neutral then you are loaded against your own anatomy and therefore unbalanced.

I guess we will have to agree to disagree on the head,obviously balance is linked to the ears with the sensory organs being there,but it's from there that where signals go backwards and forwards to stabilise the entire body. I took the accepted golf teaching of being on the balls of my feet,but my swing seemed harder work,but when I developed true balance which runs down the middle of the ankle,situated in the height of the foot arch,swinging became easier. You are talking about shifting away from the ball and then moving your weight back to the left,well I wouldn't say that was down to the head,but that's down to moving your entire upper torso back to the correct point.That's where the physicality becomes a challenge. However I respect your opinion as a teacher of the golf swing,so this not meant as inflammoratory just a different view

I call "balance" simply keeping the center of gravity between your feet. If it's outside of that you'll fall over. If it's inside of it you won't fall over. That's "balance" almost literally.

Feels aren't real, and feels are different for different people. I don't think that you can only "feel" the weight of your head when you're "unbalanced," but you seem to define "balance" differently, so we're probably agreeing more than not. FWIW, I can move my head outside of my feet and still be "balanced" per my definition. You would say that you're "unbalanced" in that position, I think.

I try to keep my head very still during the backswing,because I have always fought sway.I don't see how you can move your head without your neck without your body. I'm not talking rotating your head but actually moving it to the right on the backswing. Having said that,watch some early videos of Hogan on the backswing,OMG at least four inches, so there you are.

    • Day 22: mirror work for a while. Working on my elbow in the downswing - keeping it in a better position. 
    • Day 36 (16 Dec 25) - continued the exaggerated left foot weight shift trigger adding some easy low flighted pitches with the 5h and a few putting style bump and runs with the 5h as well.
    • Day 442 - 2025-12-16 Got some swings in at an indoor academy a little south of Erie.
    • Has anyone played the new Maxfli forged irons? For the first time in I don't know how many years, they have come out with new clubs. From what I read, Maxfli was bought by Taylor Made a long time ago which then took all of their ball making technology and patents in order to get into that market. The club business was left to whither and the reorganized company, now a part of Dicks / Golfworks / Maltby, is producing these new clubs. (Their Tour X balls which I play are really good.) Anyway, I tried them both out at Golf Galaxy. There's a player's distance iron (XC-3) and a blade (XC-2) and both feel really, really nice, almost "Mizuno-like" in their soft buttery feel and they're a bargain at $800 for a set. I'm planning to ditch my Titleist's and want to go back to a forged iron. I almost pulled the trigger on the Mizuno Pro-245's last summer, but a damaged tendon sheath in my finger combined with a back injury messed up my golf game so I held off. Now the Pro-245's are no longer available, soon to be replaced by the MX-15. (At twice the price of the Maxfli's...that's what got my attention in the first place.) If anyone has played with the new Maxfli's or just tried them out like I did, let me know what you think.
    • Day 126 12-16 Back swing and rotation work today. Didn't hit any balls. Focusing on rotating and getting to lead side.
