Does anyone use these?

I hadn't until I got a sleeve in a "goody bag". They were yellow and I didn't try them right away. Tried them in a scramble recently and was impressed. They feel great off the driver and iron distance is consistent. They felt good around the greens, but I want a bit more practice there to give an unqualified opinion. So far they seem the best combination of distance, control and feel I have tried. Only downside is they are a bit more pricey than I normallly use, but might get some for competition only.

I've only tried the Z Star X in tour Yellow. Love the color, like the feel off of the driver and irons. I'd like to try the Z Star though and I think the X is a bit to firm and unresponsive for approach shots and chipping/putting.

How does it compare to other premium balls that you have used?

I am not much of a premium ball user--I have only hit a couple ProV1's that I have found.

I have used NXT Tour a good bit, and compared to them it felt was a little hotter off the driver and for me a little hotter and more consistent off the irons. Feel-wise around the greens, I think it was about equal, but I need a bit more experience to say for sure--at least with my game.

If you took off the lables i am not sure you could tell much a difference between pro v, callaway tour, Z star etc. You will tell right away between that group and a NXT or E5 or E6, or one of those. IMO

I can definitely tell the difference in the Z-Star and NXT, but not sure I can feel an extra $10-15/doz. difference.

Agreed, many of these balls feel very similar. However, the lower-spinning variants (proV1x, Z star X, Tour ix) do feel firmer off of the putter, by design.

I tried the Z-Star Tour Yellow this past summer. For the most part I liked it, I just found it to have a bit of a dead feeling as compared to some of the other tour balls Ive used.
I like Srixon balls for the most part, there was just something about the feel of the Z-Star that I just didnt care for.
For a tour ball though, you cant beat the price of Z-Stars!

i love the yellows
but i score better wit ha middle ball because on my mishit picks i lose some distance and i need that release to get me to the ball
and when i hit a middle of the pack ball like an NXT tour or something its gonna check pretty decently when i hit it pure anyways
But then again i putt better with premium balls

I just played 18 with a yellow Z Star today and it was about 50 degrees out and I thought the performance of the ball was very good. I had no trouble holding the greens and I love the feel of it off the putter. To me its the best ball aside form the Penta.

I've been using the Z-Star Yellow for a couple of months and LUV 'em. Great distance and control and the visual is awesome. Look back at Golf Digest's ball review and the Z-Star had the HIGHEST spin rating for holding the greens....if you need to "zip-it-back" these balls do the trick! Most of my approach shots stop within a foot or two, but with a sharp downswing you can back these babies up at will!

I tried the Z Stars this past summer (yellows) and found them to be magnificent. They spin a ton, distance is good, iron distance is perfect, but for me the Z Star (I tried the yellow) best attribute is durability.

I played 36 holes with ONE of these three balls... the other two are brand new. You have to really examine the balls to find the one that has been played, and the only mark came when one drive hit off a tree ONCE. I was sucking this ball back to the pins all day, hitting one hop and stop mid and longer irons, etc. There is ZERO shredding from the grooves on irons, zero marks left from other clubs on ANY type of shot at all. The firts few times I played a Pro V1 I left marks all over it and have never bought another one since.... Z Star for me now!!!

Which ball has been played for 36.... and which two have seen putting green time only????

The ball at the TOP RIGHT is the one I used for 36. RABSOLUTELY RIDICULOUS that it spins this much but is still in this good of condition. I'm sold! You can see a small mark on the top right ball..... just outside the n in Srixon. That mark is from hitting a tree SOLID off a well struck tee shot that would have gone 250 or a little more had it been straighter.

These babies are Japanese market only.... the hunt begins?

I should add that I play old, Wilson Staff RM forged irons and an old Carbon Steel Scotty Cameron putter, so I could hit a rock off the sweet spot and it would feel good... but with the Z Star? Hitting the sweet spot is a treat for the senses.....

Much like any other premium ball mind you, but the durability here is just too good to be true.

I switched to Z-stars in the spring. I started with the white ball and loved it. I bought a sleeve of yellows to compare to the whites. While the whites are very durable, the yellows are incredibly durable. Like the previous post, I have played multiple rounds with the same ball and could barely tell the difference. My record is 42 holes with the same ball before it bid me farewell.

"These babies are Japanese market only.... the hunt begins?" I'm not sure what you mean by this. I have had no problem getting yellows. My first purchase was at Golf Town ("Canadian version" of Golf Galaxy). I then found a seller on the net who offers big discounts on minimum 6 dozen purchases. I ordered 9 dozen from them in August. Including shipping and taxes, a really good deal.

The hunt is for the ORANGE version of the Z Star. Japanese market. Perhaps the photo is not showing up? It did for me this morning, but I put it in a separate post. A mod has combined the posts. No big deal.

Absolutely LOVE the tour yellow Z-Stars. I carry a case of both the regular Z-Star and the Z-Star X in the car and vary which I play depending on course conditions. As far as spin goes, Pro V > Z-Star > V1X > Z-Star X, but both Z-Stars are a LOT more durable. I've played multiple rounds with both, while I can't ever remember getting more than 9 holes in with a ProV before it was shredded. And the color is soooooo visible. My home course has a ton of fescue, and those suckers have to be really badly buried to not find them.

The Z Star and Z Star X hold up a lot better than the Titleist Pro V1 and Titleist Pro V1x. I can get a full round of out of a Z Star whereas after a few hits with my irons much less wedges the Titleist Pro V1 balls start to show signs of wear. If I was willing to swap out a ball every 3 or 4 holes I would consider the Titleist but since that's not the case I play the Srixon Z Stars.

Srixon is coming out with a new ball and I've seen the Z Stars and Z Star Xs going for $30 a dozen. For that price it's a no brainer and I've stocked up on a few dozen.

Some players on the Nationwide are playing a Srixon prototype ball, the Srixon Diamond....

Keeping them in the car Pyrahna? The Z Star packaging shouts about NOT keeping them in the car (due to temperature) louder than any other golf ball packaging I have seen. Ever have any issues?

    • I can see a point in this.  If you play a straigth 3 footer with a square face aiming at the hole, you can miss both ways, with a close face or an open one. If you aim rigth an close the face at impact (like tiger used to do), physically you can still miss left or rigth but mentally you are only missing left (closed face) and having only 1 miss can give you a boost in confidence. I putt this way on fade putts and aim left and open the face on draw putts, never liked the uncerteinty of putting square to the target.  I apply something like this on approach shots, only use low or high shots and for middle shots I use a low shot with more loft ot a high shot with less loft. This shots are always what they meat low or high, a middle one can go a little towards the high and the low depending on the AoA of each shot making it mentally a little more uncertain what is going to be.
    • Yeah, I'm not sure if he is genuine or not either but that's not why I'm giving him props.
    • I really liked this videos.    I wonder about how to effitiently apply force to the handle of the club on the downswing.  Me personally used to apply force to the grip in the direction off the ball. I had a very steep angle of attack with my hands to the ball.  After looking at this videos I started to apply force downwards in the beginning of the backswing and then towards the flag/target when I was about to hit the ball.  After looking at pro players, they all start to lift their hands before hitting the ball. I don't know if it is because of pushing with their left leg up or because they apply force upwards to the grip when they reach the ball, or something else?
    • I'm pro BDC because of his scientific approach to golf, but I don't think he is been genuine since he started youtube and had this goal to be liked by all.    Congrats to scotty, yes is boring to watch a major when only 1 player is in contention, but the man is crushing it, he is making it look easy despite playing against the elite of golf.
    • Sure, anything recent though (like in the last year or two) or are we sentencing him for life with no possibility of parole?
