How do people do this? I'm talking about rescue shots if I don't feel like 100% taking my medicine. I only slice the ball anymore with the driver, and then not on purpose :) On purpose I can only get a slight overfade with irons or my 2h, and then often it'll be a pull with a big fade and not actually end up that far right of the target I was trying to start the ball at and have slice big right of.

I've got this shot thats a punch slice for poking out of the woods and running it up the fairway. Sometimes it looks totally awesome. I just open up my stance, play it back a little and take a 3/4 widish swing.

Outside to in by coming over the top - I've got it down pat lol.

I use a similar shot. Just point the clubhead where you want the ball to start, then open your stance dependoing on how much curve you want on the ball and swing along your stance line.

You can do the same for a punch hook out of the trees.

I did this shot out of the trees yesterday with my 19* hybrid, and it had the coolest shot shape, it was like a radio controlled golf ball, it took off out of the trees about 5 feet off the ground, and rose to about 20 feet as it sliced, and ran way up the fairway. Not a bad shot to have in the bag. I find the hook version is still tough for me.

I've got the punch slice all right, but I can only do it with a half swing. I've saved par on a couple shorter par 4s lately with a punch slice 4i that ended up either on or very close to the green. But I can only semi-reliably hit that shot maybe 130 and in with my 4i.

The hole that inspired this post was a need on a long par 4 for a serious slice from 200 yards out. My 2h goes 220-225 from a decent lie, so I feel like I should be able to slice it with an almost full swing and have it go at least 200 yards. But when I try for a full swing going for a slice I generally either hit a straight pull or a pull-fade that doesn't go nearly as far right as I want. Do I just need to hold back my wrists more?

Sounds like you're coming over the top on it.

Give the method I posted earlier a try. It works really well for me. You make a normal swing, except you setup open, point the clubface where you want the ball to start and just swing along your feet line. It's a normal swing, except the face is set open from the start to give you the slice spin, no swing manipulation needed.

The most assured way for me to hit a straight shot is to actually try to slice it. Usually wind up putting a bullet 100 yards in the deep woods on the other side of the fairway. I can never put a slice down on demand. Only rock solid workable shot I have is a knockdown draw.

Yes, coming over the top will almost always result in sidespin to the right.
