I look at the back inside corner for a draw, the outside corner for a fade on the driver. look at the front of the ball on irons ,cause you want your divot in front of the ball. you can work the ball by looking at the front corners on the irons. I like to work the ball one way or another cause the sraight shot is very hard to master,& I like to be in some kind of control with the balls flight. Focusing on the ball may cause you to be "hitting" instead of swinging "thru" the ball, but you have to look at something.can't close your eyes!

I look at the back of the ball for driver, 3 wood, 3 & 4 hybrid. I have a progression of distance from there for all my other irons. 5 is barely on the grass in front of the ball, to 3" in front of the ball for my lob wedge.

I don't think I've ever given it a moments thought, I just look at the ball.

I will judge my rounds much more by the quality of my best shots than the acceptability of my worse ones.

I look at the top of the ball for shots off the ground and the back of the ball off the tee. This of course except when I lift my head before I hit the ball, in that case I am usually just looking for the ball.

Probably coming from a baseball background, I just look at the ball.

If I can hit it coming in at 85 mph, I can hit it sitting still.

Maybe I'll try looking at the grass just in front of the ball as some have suggested, in hopes of a crisper ball-then-turf hit.

Of course I'll prolly just end up thinning horribly. Then again, a thin is better than a chunk, no?

I never liked looking at the back. Hated it in fact. I just look right at the ball, so I suppose that is the "top." Smack in the middle of it.

Depends how far you are. I'll take chunk over a ball that flies clean over a green.

If you keep your hands ahead of the ball at impact and are hitting down, you shouldn't be able to hit it thin. Even if you bottom out an eight of an inch above the ground, if you're hands are ahead of the clubhead and you're hitting down you should get half-decent ball flight. Low ball flight, shorter ball flight, but not typical mishit thin ball flight.

I've been forcing myself to start getting my hands farther ahead at impact and to hit down on the ball, and I focus a half inch or quarter inch ahead of the ball on the ground. I basically tell myself to hit the ground at that spot. I don't think I've had a half-decent swing yet that hit thin. I still manage to hit it fat, but when I actually do what I'm aiming to do half-way decently I don't stand a chance of hitting it thin. I know it sounds like a fat-for-thin tradeoff, but I don't think it is.

Im slowly learning new things by the day. Once i figured out that my hips needed to move toward the target and not spin out so early, i understood why bobby clampet says the bottom of the swing should be 4 inches after the ball. If you play the ball around center of the stance, and bump your hips toward the target, you can see with a practice swing the bottom is roughly about 4 inches in front of where the ball would be. Things are starting to make sense now :) but actually acheiving it can be another story....

All your brain needs is for you to get the ball somewhere in your peripheral field. Your brain will take care of the rest. When you drive a car, do you think about which part of the road to look at? The best drivers have quiet eyes. The best putters too. That's all been proven by eye-tracking studies. I'd venture to say the same is true of the full swing.

Wowza played today and looked at the front of the ball for wedges, middle for short irons and back for long irons and I don't think I miss hit a single ball.

Even if you don't wanna move all your shots, try the front of the ball for wedges. It's amazing how easily the ball jumps when you do.

    • Yea Club Rat said it. I really enjoyed the Senator and the Judge, then over to Grand National where there a couple good courses plus a fun par 3. The one I do play whenever I visit there is Ross Bridge; something about this course that is just good fun. I hope to play more of the courses in the future, but tomorrow is promised to no one, so hope is the key word. Have Fun, iSank

    • Day 56: 4/19/2024 Okay, even though I'll be teeing it up in a tournament in less than a week. I couldn't find time to get to the range today.  I spent time on the indoor putting mat.  And I spent time in front of the mirror with my 7 iron. Then again later with the driver.  I also thoroughly cleaned all my clubs.
