that was pretty good, thanks for posting. I still dont get the not straightening the right leg on the backswing though. That was the main thing that helped me to turn my shoulders more for the proper rotation.

I think this is where the terminology is different. When Foley says, "don't straighten the rear knee", he means locked. When a S&T; guy says straighten they are talking about gradually losing the flex of the knee.

i see but I do notice foley not straightening the right leg as much compared to S&T; on the backswing

Just one more indication that for all the noise made about the "Stack and Tilt" being a revolutionary swing it is really just sound fundamentals.

Are you comparing actual S&T; swings or the feelings they're giving to people?

(Red line is setup, green is top of backswing - measured at different regions so that the numbers didn't overlap more.) Even some S&T; guys (Wi, Waite) don't straighten the right knee as much as many think. Some (Mike Bennett for one) straighten it more. Anyway, the only slide out of the five that's not really S&T; is the final one, with a little bit of the one before it thrown in (we don't advocate your ENTIRE body going left on the downswing).

I agree wholeheartedly, but the other side is that unfortunately golf instruction has gotten away from those fundamentals and into a world where everyone takes their hands back straight, gets all their weight well to the right at the top of the backswing, and spins like crazy coming down.

I've believed for a while that the term for the rear leg's movement should be "don't lock" rather than "don't straighten".

I like his swing alot, i am not sure if he actually leans his whole body to the left in the downswing as he says, maybe thats just a feeling he gets, unless he does do it in a video of his swing.

Its simple math really...4 out of 5 pieces = 5% in Foley's world....

Frankly, I think the 5% thing was talked about too much. I'm not with some of those in the S&T; camp who want to say 80%. It might not even be 50%. If I had to guess, 20-30%... the thing that was annoying about that is that he tells people like O'Hair that he's not teaching him S&T; AT ALL like what he teaches is very different (he could have gotten 60% of the way there on his own and just borrowed 20% from Mike and Andy and arrived at a swing that's REALLY similar but not 100% exact), and that he had to put down Mike and Andy when they were so generous with their time in helping Sean to both put words to the things he was trying to describe to his students and to discuss the geometry and other pieces of the swing.

So please, let's put the 5% stuff to bed... Again, I'm glad Sean Foley teaches something that's AWFULLY similar to S&T;, and if he can stop bashing Mike and Andy while doing it, everyone (PGA Tour and average golfers) should benefit.

Off topic: Sean O'Hair doesn't seem like the sharpest tool in the shed.

    • Did you use the code here? 🙂  That's good, though. You should always have one charged. 😄
    • I will think about it but I would have to have my sister record it and as I recently put a hole into the outside shed window with a golf shot she might not be overkeen,,,lol
    • Nah. 🙂 I was S all the way, but it requires unanimity, so… we were getting close to 20:00 at that point. 😄
    • Huh?  No. Why would you just accept it? That doesn't make sense to me. You can start a MySwing thread for free and then either you or somebody else out here may have some ways to help you. You may even be able to diagnose your own problem.  If you are embarrassed by your swing that's all the more reason to record it. Nobody here is going to judge you for your golf swing. ... maybe your fashion sense or your music taste but certainly not your golf swing. 👍🤣👍
