Does anyone know of a good substitute for a driver? I never use my driver and always take my 3 wood but i would like to replace my driver with a different club to give me a touch more distance than my 3 wood. Any suggestions from anyone? Is there anything on the market?

Well try not to dismiss this, but if you're having the 'typical' problems with your driver, consider the 'perfect driver'.

If you've seen the club you'll know why I mention it. It's really made for someone who has some issues with driving for the reasons of length and club head size. I think a lot of people would benefit from trying this. If you get a chance, demo one.

My second suggestion would be something like the Nike lucky 13. With a high loft, it will compensate for a slower swing to get the ball in the air, while you try to master getting your swing grooved for higher speed. The lucky 13 is also an inch shorter I believe. You'll find you square up easier, as well as gain some head speed from the lighter shafts. I found this to be a very easy driver to hit in today's market of toaster sized heads and javelin length shafts.

These are just my humble suggestions, but at the end of the day, if you're really -stuck- with driving, I think you need to have a pro analyze your swing. That's what I did. It took slo-motion video to figure out what mechanics were breaking down and cause a poor result. (It seems with driving, all errors become magnified). In my case I had my body getting quite ahead of my arms causing me to pull the clubhead across the swing plane (outside in), resulting in a brutal fade. It took a good month to undo this nasty habit, so please be patient.

I feel your pain, good luck.

I think the Nike suggestion is a good one. Most people could use higher loft and a shorter shaft driver than what comes standard.

What you really want is a "Thriver" which is half Driver, half three wood. Typically 12-14 degrees loft, about 43 inches in length and a heavier swingweight. Not sure how far this is from you but you might want to see Rene Cleaver, PCS Professional "CLASS A" Clubmaker and 2005 International Clubmaker of the Year. http://www.clubmasters.co.uk/

    • LIV golf was pretty close to me in 2023, at the same course that hosted the 2023 Senior PGA.  I didn't go to either one.  I do know a few people who went to the LIV event, and they said it was pretty well attended and pretty well run.  If I had free tickets, I might show up, but I'd probably have to drive 10 miles to park to get a shuttle to come back to within 5 miles of my house.
    • As long as "in town" means a drive of less than an hour, I'd probably go.  I've never actually been to a pro golf event, so it would be a novelty. Presumably, they'd be playing on a course that I'm not normally allowed to visit, so there would be an interest in just going to see the place. My tolerance for traffic is pretty minimal, so if massive headaches are predicted it would dampen my enthusiasm.
    • I would definitely buy tickets and go watch a round or two.
