Yards and meters for pros

I just got thinking bout the JB Were masters this past week, and here in Australia our markers are in meters, not yards. Does anyone think this would play tricks with foreign golfers, like the TIG for example. "Yo Stevie how many yards brother?" "1-sexty there Tiger" (excuse my kiwi accent hahahah)

Maybe Stevie makes his own yardage book in yards not meters for the Aussie tournament?

Seriously, though, the yards/meters thing isn't that hard in the day and age of rangefinders which can be set to read out in either units. I still work in yards in my head just because I'm lazy about making the mental switch on my club distances. On the course here I just add 10% to the given meter markings. Close enough.

The books they carry surely is written in yards, not meters. They use the yardage books most of the time, not fairway markers. Most of the stuff is done before the tournament, so I don't think it is a big problem. The caddies main job on any shot is to find the distance to whatever object etc. During the 45+ seconds, I'm sure they can come up with the distance in the stupid imperial distance.

Well its metres here in the Ireland as well but to convert metres to yards you just take the digits excluding the first and add them to the yardage eg. 120m = 132yards 93m = 102 yards the bigger the yardage you should add a yard or 2, Im sure the caddies might have a more accurate conversion system

In Canada we officually use metric, but learn several "traditional" systems of measurement since land is still measured in acres, beer in ounces and pints, human height in feet and inches, sporting distances in feet, inches and yards (field dimensions, yardages, first downs, yards after the catch, etc), and when people are shopping for a new car they immediately convert the L/100km to MPG. A little known fact - cars always get better gas "mileage" in Canada than in the US.

Usually a pace is a yard but a metre is only .09 inches larger than a yard so pacing isnt exactly that accurate but Im pretty sure caddies got it down to an art

I don't pace, but I do all my measurements in meters.

Though I do believe a good caddy can pace off a distance better than most of us, out of necessity for keeping the job.

A meter is 1.094 yards. Or as others have suggested here, just add 10% to the number of meters to get yards and it's close enough for any of our golf games - the pros also.
