Played a round last weekend with a friend and his buddy from work (70* weather in November, EPIC for us Ohioans.) His friend used a two putter system where he had a SC Kombi Long putter (for putts about 5-10 ft from the cup) and a SC Newport 2 (for longer putters and putting from the fringe.)

Whether you like long putters or not (I'm kind of mehh about them ) you can't deny how deadly they are close to the cup. The guy said he's been using this strategy for about 2 years and he was pretty damn good. I would think that constantly switching would mentally mess my own game up but in the hands of a seasoned, low handicap player it seemed to work. I believe he had 32 putts and no three putts.. One thing I did notice is he seemed to have a few 'in-between' putts where he would say 'should've hit the kombi/newport, woulda drained it.

Anyone else use 2 putters? what do you think about it?

I think Sergio Garcia tried bagging two putters for a while on tour. For your average bloke without a caddy, it must be a real pain lugging them both around the green every time you have a lag putt, though.

Ya Sergio did try that, I remember noticing that yearw ago... Ya playing in his group it was semi- irritating to see him switch the clubs and it seemed like such a process when you have to lug that giant putter, plus short putter, or plus a wedge etc..... But idk I really never thought it would be something I'd consider trying but after seeing how he made it work it, got me thinking. I'm a great putter but on occasion will struggle with those damn 5 footers, mainly due to too much hand/wrist action. Hopefully this isn't a regurgitated topic but I've never seen somebody combine 2 opposite styled putters before first hand!

I think it's a stupid strategy. Guys on tour use the long putters from all distances. It's hard enough to perfect one stroke let alone two strokes with two different types of putters.

I would say the strategy is not to my liking but I wouldn't call it a stupid strategy. What works for others might not work for me and vice versa. Therefore, I would not call the strategy stupid if it works for them.

Personally, I have enough hard time trying to groove one putting stroke. :-p

I would argue that if he's second guessing himself whether he should be using one putter over the other after shots, it's not working very well. I believe strongly in the K.I.S.S. strategy, this certainly doesn't adhere to that. IMO it's stupid.

Sounds like a band aid solution to me and I'm not willing to take an important club out of my bag (for example my 52deg wedge), for a 2nd putter. No thank you.

I just use my cheap RAM putter for putts of all lengths, sometimes even when the putter is not really the normal strategy like when im quite some distance off the green. I feel I can get the ball closer putting rather than chipping as long as there's not really thick rough in my path. Doesnt always work but has gotten me many pars that I probably wouldnt have gotten trying to chip the ball onto the green.

Ya i think in theory it makes sense and I understood the methodology but this is certainly not for everyone. it was just weird as hell to see that and to see it actually work (after that i feel like I've seen everything..) KISS imo is the best mindset for putting but whatever works I guess, I like the golfing culture because of ppl like Jim and their individual approaches to the game. one goal, get the ball in the hole: so idk if you can even say anything is stupid if it works. Final verdict, K.I.S.S. get a Circa 62 and do what it do

If it works for him, great. I don't think 32 putts is all that special unless he hit just a ton of greens. I'd say that is average at best for a solid 6 or 7. When I have 16 putts a side, my putter really didn't help me at all. If I have any more than that, I am having a blow up round.
