So I want to try a good shaft for myself that might fit me a little better than the DG300 that I have now. I dont want to use the shaft optimizer again since I didnt have good results with that the first time. It recommended a high launching shaft soft stepped once, like dynalite xp. I had to go with dynamic gold high launch instead because Titleist didnt offer the dynalite shaft and was told that would be its equivalent. Well the dynamic gold High launch soft stepped ballooned the ball too much and too much spin. I say all this because I dont want to go back to using the mizuno shaft optimizer since it didnt help me the first time.

I know I need to soft step a stiff shaft and I think that would be a good idea for me. I have the option to soft step my S300's or go with another shaft and soft step it. I kind of want to use a mid launching shaft and soft step it once, instead of using a low launching shaft (S300) and soft stepping it since I need more height in my shots. I think were I went wrong with the first fitting was using a high launching shaft and then making it launch even higher with the soft step.

Does anyone recommend any shaft that is a mid launching shaft that I could soft step once ? I know the KBS tour is mid launch but have read mixed reviews. What would you guys recommend for me to soft step?

I don't know enough about your situation, but I recently put in KBS Tour Stiff, soft stepped, into my irons and pitching wedge, and I like it much better than the R300s that were in there.

really, well thats the kind of info Im looking for. How do they feel compared to the Dynamic Golds? and how is the ballflight in the soft stepped ones?

You might talk to clubfitters about the Project X flighted shafts. Flighted gets the ball up initially, but takes a somewhat flatter trajectory once it gets going.

A PX 5.0 shaft is somewhat stiffer than an R300, so you might consider a softstepped 5.5 flex. A good clubfitter can explain the details.

yea I refuse to buy project x shafts. I should probably try them but I know the butt end is harsh and I dont like that. I just tried a KBS (made for taylormade) shafts in the R9 irons at Dicks sporting goods. All they had were regular flex, they didnt seem too flippy and I liked the feel when hitting them. I think the KBS tour stiff soft stepped would be pretty good after hitting those.

You should give the Dynalite XP stiff a try if you can-I'm a high ball hitter, but I don't balloon the Dynalites in my MX-200s.

well according to golfsmiths site, the kbs tour's in stiff are for SS of 75-85 mph, so I dont think I need to soft step them. I checked what golfsmith said about the Dynamic Gold s300 and it recommended 80-90mph.

Ive got KBS stiff shafts in my irons and they are awsome, my fitter recommended them for me! I said i was intrested in the project x shafts and went on the monitor and hit my own 6 iron ( cobra S9 2008) and then hit an AP2 with a project x shaft, then an AP2 with a KBS shaft! The results were there to see,got better launch angle less spin and the irons just felt better with the KBS! My fitter said that in his opinion the KBS was a much better shaft than the project x!

actually I probably need to soft step the stiffs. I went to the golf shop and hit a few balls on their virtual golf course machine that measures everything. I used a i15 7 iron and was swinging about 75 mph, so a 6 iron would be 77mph average. It was showing my path was inside out and clubface equal to the path resulting in pushes. I need to work on getting my clubface in a better position through impact, Ive got the inside out part down

if only I had one of those machines and hitting screens in my basement. that would be soo nice for winter.

So I think I found a set of irons that has KBS tour shafts. Its a Taylormade Rac TP Combo, the 3,4,5 are cb and the rest are the MB. What do you think would be a good price for a set like this? Also he said they are all standard size etc but when he was regripping he found the 3 iron shaft has a 1/2" shaft extension on it. Will this be a problem for me when I soft step them and put that shaft into my 4iron? thanks for the help guys

yea Im not messing with the iron set I mentioned above. Sounds too homemade.

Have a question about which flex to get on the kbs tours tho. Im thinking of going with regular now. I looked at the chart that golfsmith had on their site with the kbs irons and says this
Flex RSSR(mph)*
R 65-75 110 .355t" .600" 37.5-41.5"
S 75-85 120 .355t" .600" 37.5-41.5"
X 85-95 130 .355t" .600" 37.5-41.5"

but if you go to the actual KBS website, for their irons they have this chart.

5-iron

1.100+ mph = X-flex
2.90 mph = S-flex
3.80 mph = R-flex / 90S-flex
4.70 mph = 90R-flex

Im probably going to go with the actual KBS websites recommendation. I tried the 90R shafts at Dicks sporting goods and even those didnt seem flippy so I should be goo with the tour regular flex.

well i just bought 5-pw with nearly brand new grips. Regular flex. Only a few months old for 70 shipped. Looked good from pictures. Not a bad price when they are soo expensive new, 25 a shaft without grip, geez,

You should start a blog.

Check out DGSL S300's. I have a SS of 86-88 mph with my 6 iron and was testing it out and I find the DG S300's a better fit. The DGSL S300's are lighter so you may pick up some swing speed with it.

thanks for the recommendation, Il probably try them at some point. I just picked up the kbs tours in regular today tho from some guy in canada. They are 110g which is probably the lightest I want to go. dgs300's are 130g

KBS Tour Regular 110g

KBS Tour Stiff 120g KBS Tour X-Stiff 130g The SL S300's are actually same weight as the Tour Regular's but stiffer. The Tour Regular's will be quite a big difference from your DG S300's.
