Can't wait to hit them! Got me some different balls to try as well for the upcoming season...oh wait the Joys of Okinawa its golf season year round supposed to be mid/low 70s all week! Also picked up a TM superfast 47" Fubuki 73x Stiff...hit it today and I hit it straighter than i was my other drivers that were 2 inches shorter along with what looked like a much better ball flight and more distance for sure

Wow you really went nuts over there.

Awesome purchases. Bet your wallets a bit lighter nowadays though

Waiting out the 2 feet of snow that just dropped on the course....

Terrible move. Now you have no excuses if your game falls apart

But seriously, I just redid my setup...If I would redo it with something else, your setup is pretty close to perfect. Can't wait for some impressions.

.......wow.......

I pay the same cost as everyone else....only no taxes.

47" lol...

Not cheaper, I'm Enlisted Active Duty Airforce...hardly rich. I dont have to pay sales tax though.

The irons were pretty expensive...near $1000...Ping wanted like 30 bux a club upcharge for that shaft...I would have went with the KBS stock shaft but when I was demoing shafts I just kept going back to this PX although I never would have guessed this. The wedges were around $100 a piece and everybody knows what balls cost...luckily I had a bunch of spare clubs to sell to offset the purchase. Sold a used set of callaway wedges for $150, sold my I15 5-PW for $320, sold my Mizuno MX 300 5-GW with MP CLK 4 hybrid for $325 yesterday, Sold my G-15 driver for $160 last week....so that offset the cost greatly. I snagged the driver off ebay at a decent price...the rest of my clubs were straight from PING. As for the driver...yesterday was my 2nd range session with it...and just like the first session its much easier for me to hit than my G15 and 909D2...wouldnt have guessed it with the shaft length but I did choose a heavier shaft than in my Titleist and it has a good feel to it and appears to be easily a longer clubs distance wise as well. I'll save comments for how the irons hit until later on today after I go to the course and hit off the grass...hard to tell much hitting off a all mat driving range. Thanks for the good words guys!

Played 6 rounds with these since I've gotten them. Started off with 2 nine hole rounds to get a feel for these on the course as our range is all mats...round 3-6 were within the last 6 days...shot 83 83 86 80...my 86 was a horrible putting day (39 putts) but hit half of the GIR. 82 was my best since on island until today and that with was my I15's...never shot below 84 with my Mizunos and 3 of 6 rounds were 83 or better...both 83's were from the whites and their course ratings and slopes wer figured into my handicap and today's 80 was from the blue tees White=6369 yards 69.7 course rating and 120 slope....Blue=6714 yards 71.3 course rating and 122 slope.

Todays round was going great started out with 5 pars...then hit one OB right on 6 along with a 3 putt for a tripple bogie....7 i hit a good one 220 into a par 5 hit a 4 iron that I dont know what happened on and hit it right over the fence into oncoming traffic haha! ended in a bogie and par'ed 9...#10 a 592 yard par 5 dog leg left was a messy hole for me even thought I hit the fairway I played the hole like garbage and ended up with bogie...bogied 11 and 12....birdied 13 with a 12 foot putt to calm the bleeding...missed a 12 footer for birdie on 14...missed a 3 foot putt for par on 15 and par'ed 16, 17, 18 for my back 9 39...front was a 41. Went to a local Japanese golf store afterwards to get my Cameron adjusted from stock lie to 3 degrees flat...was supposed to be 71 degree lie stock it was 71.5 and supposed to be 4 degrees loft stock and it was 3 degrees...I left the length alone, got the lie to 68 degrees and left the loft at 3 degress. Also chopped my Superfast TP Taylormade driver to 45" and had a New Decade multicomound grip put on...came back to the course and hit some putts....lookin forward to hitting some drivers as I had 1.5" chopped off my driver. I had my club head speed checked while i was there....it averaged 111 mph.

This thread is about the irons...these feel equally if not more fogiving that my MX300 Mizunos I had...They feel more acurate and more constistant for sure...I'll get back afte rmore rounds played.

Any new thoughts on the S56's?  Im considering getting them myself.  I just demo'd a set for 2 rounds and really liked them.  As advertised, they set up like a blade but are easier to hit than most blades.  Plus, as your pics show, they are really sweet looking clubs.  I would be switching from i5's so im a little concerned that the S56's will be difficult to hit, but based on my demo rounds, thats not the case.  Didnt have any issues drawing the ball (for some reason I was under the impression that blades would be harder to draw).  In fact, as I currently do with my i5's, I fought a slight low hook with the long irons (4 & 5).  I think I got a few extra yards with them vs. the i5's also.  Probably because of the lower ball flight.

Anyway, looking forward to any thoughts you or any other S56 owners might have.

    • I would think of it in terms of time. The time it takes to get the arm angle into a good position to deliver the club with proper shaft lean. Another component is rotation, but that is also a matter of timing. It relates to how the body stalls to give the golfer time to hit the ball. If you have to get 80+ degrees out of that right elbow in one third of a second versus 50 degrees in the same time then you have to steal time from somewhere. It is usually body rotation. That does not help with shaft lean.  I agree in that amateurs tend to make the swing more complicated than pro golfers.
    • I haven't been able to practice like I wanted and won't for the next week.  1. The weather sucks in Ohio this year. I have been mostly inside hitting foam balls. Just kind of my basic stuff.  2. I woke up last Saturday with a left side rib muscle on fire. If I turned or leaned a certain way it would spasm that almost buckled my knees. I have been taking a break to let that settle. I don't want to get a long term injury. I think I pinched a nerve or just aggravated a muscles.   3. I am going on a mini-vacation to Florida (screw you Ohio weather) with a friend, and rolling that into a work conference I have next week. I will be with out my clubs for a week.  I will be back next in two Fridays to hit the ground running with some warmer temps and better weather in Ohio, hopefully. I would really like to get more out on the course and the range.
    • Day 580 - 2026-05-04 Played eight holes. Sometimes golf kicks you in the nuts. 😉
    • I work with a lot of golfers who want more shaft lean at impact, who currently have AoAs that range from +2° to -2°, and who love to see the handle lower and more "in front of their trail thigh" from face-on at P6. And a lot of these golfers try to solve the issue by working on the downswing. They do something to drag the handle forward. Or they just leave their right thigh farther back so the same handle location "looks" farther forward. Or they move the ball back in their stance. Or they push themselves down into the ground to get the handle lower and increase (decrease?) their AoA (to be more negative). The real fix is often to get wider in the backswing. To do LESS in the backswing. To hinge less, fold the trail arm less, abduct the trail arm less. I had a case of this over the weekend. Before, the player had 110° of trail elbow bend, "lifted" his trail humerus only a few degrees, etc. The club traveled quite a bit around him, and he tended to "pick" the ball from the fairways. In the "after" swings below (which are mild exaggerations — this golfer does not need to end up at < 70° of elbow bend. These were slower backswings with "hit it as hard as you normally would" intent downswings), you can see that he bent his elbow about 70° instead of 110° and lifted his right arm an extra ~15° or more. You can't see how much less this moved his hands across his chest (right arm abduction), but it was also decreased. His hands stayed more "in front of" his right shoulder rather than traveling "beside" them so much. The two swings look like this: The change at P6, without talking about the downswing one little bit (outside of him telling me that he tends to pick the ball), is remarkable: Without 110° of elbow bend to get out (which he gets to 80°, a loss of 30°), the golfer actually loses slightly less elbow bend (70 - 50 = 20), but delivers 30° less elbow bend, lowering the handle and letting the elbow get "in front of" the rib cage… because it never got "behind" or "beside" the rib cage. If you look at this video showing the before/afters of P6, you'll note the handle location (both vertically and horizontally) and the shoulders (the ball is in the same place in these frames). This golfer's path was largely unaffected (still pretty straight into the ball, < 3° path and often < 1.5°), but his AoA jumped to -5° ± 2°. I've always said, and in talking with other instructors they agree and feel similarly, that we spend a lot of time working on the backswing. This is another example of why.
    • We had a member of our senior club who developed a mental block on pulling the trigger. I played with him to see what the membership was talking about. I timed him a few times when he would get over the ball. 45 seconds. He knew he had a mental block and would chide himself, “Just hit it!” Once on the green he was okay and chipping was a bit better. It was painful to watch him struggle. Our “bandaid” was to put him in the last tournament  tee time with two understanding players. We should have suggested to him to take a break from our tournaments. I agree with the idea that when a player realizes they have a problem, the answer is to go fix it and not return until they are able to play at an acceptable pace.
