Planning mid-winter LAS VEGAS trip ... appreciate any recs on good & bad courses

Looking at late January & would like to book airline travel & courses soon ... never played out west so I'd really appreciate any info on decent courses near Las Vegas that are a good bang for the buck (not looking to spend >$100 per round) & maybe more importantly, those to be avoided (nothing worse than to book a big vacation like this & end up playing dog tracks) ... many thanks !!

Mesquite is about n hour and 15 minutes away. I was out there in early November for the ReMax World Long Drive Championships. We played a couple course while we were there. They have some nice courses out there. Here is a link to a couple courses. We stayed at the CasaBlanca while we were out there.

There are a lot great courses out there, you just need to shop around. Going a hour and a half to a course from vegas is a long ways...

The better courses in and around Vegas usually cost more than $100 per round. Check out this link. The ones lists as "best bang for the buck" will be less than $100. If you can get a round at any of the Pauite courses for less than $100 that is the place to play.

Thanks to all for the tips & advice ... there are so many courses in Vegas, it always helps to get some inside info.

One other thing I thought I'd ask ... I'm trying to find combination golf & hotel accomodations - it's becomming really arduous & taking the fun out of it ... is there a site any of you may have used rather than going to each individual course's site & hunting for deal packages ?        I'm beginning to think that there just aren't any deals out there in January ... after all, that's probably the peak time as opposed to summer when most people won't golf in the heat...

Look for deals at Golf Mesquite.  Much better courses at a relatively more reasonable price than the Sin city.

Thanks !       I'll definitely look into Mesquite area ... the guy I'm going with played Wolf Creek there a few years ago & said it was one of the best playing & most scenic course he's ever played (including many of the famous European Links courses he's played !!)

There are several nice courses in Las Vegas that won't cost you $100.  Angel Park has two 18's, plus a fun par 3 course and a really neat putting course.  Legacy in Henderson is nice.  Unless it's been drastically upgraded, don't go to Wildhorse.  Boulder Creek is a good test. Primm Valley has two great courses at the state line (about 30 minutes away).  There are several others around town that won't gouge the tourist too much.

Mesquite has some good courses but, as stated above, 1 1/2 hours is a long time to drive.

Wolf Creek is one of the best courses I've played.  However, all the times I've played (5 years in a row now), it has been a relatively slow round.  About 5 hr rounds.

Maybe I drive fast (not really), but it only takes 1 hour from Las Vegas to get to Mesquite.  It is about 70+ miles north, but the speed limit out of LV is 75 mph.

Falcon Ridge is new course and it is also nice.  Similar to Wolf Creek.

Every round we played out there was SLOOOOWWW... I was not impressed with the pace of play out there. But Falcon ridge and Wolf Creek and beautiful golf courses. It's crazy how Falcon Ridge is literally plopped right down in the middle of the city. pretty cool visual courses out there with the desert and mountains.

the 2 courses at Primm Valley are excellent but it's a little out of the way (an hour west or so) from Vegas proper.

For golf packages in Vegas check out Golfpac.com.  I played a few years ago Red Rock CC - Arroyo course and it was great.

Paiute is awesome,wolf creek is one you have got to play at least once.The newest boulder city course aint to bad either if the wind aint blowing.Down at stateline I cant remember the name of the course but it was fun also.Badlands is a pretty cool course kinda cut up with all the canyons and things but if youre looking for a true desert course then this one may be it.

I'll second this.  Angel Park was a nice layout, if a bit poorly maintained when I was there, and Boulder Creek is very nice too.  They have 3 sets of 9s if I remember correctly.  They have a skydiving school or something near one of the 9s, so you might see skydivers from some of the holes.  Really cool.

Got back ... Wolf Creek was fabulous - desert scenery blew my mind - first rate course.       Rio Secco was also a very nice course, but I much preferred the desert setting of Wolf Creek.

I got back from my LV trip last week.  Played Wolf and Snow at Paiute and both Primm Valley courses.  Was VERY happy with both places.  This is my fourth LV golf vacation and those are definitely the best courses I've played (and the best deals IMO).  Next time I plan to play Rio Secco again (played it last in 2006) and try Badlands for the first time, as well as Mesquite.
