Using a 60* wedge to hit out of the sand

Hello everyone, I have a quick question.

Is it ok to use a 60* wedge out of the greenside bunkers, or should you always use a wedge that is closely lofted to a sand wedge?

I don't know if the loft of a 60* wedge will create any issues with hitting out of the bunker?

I'm asking because I am getting some new wedges. I already bought the 60* and was thinking that if I get a 52* wedge, I might be fine with just those two wedges. My pw is 45* so I would be around 7 to 8 degrees between each wedge. I also do not mind taking a  3/4 swing with my 52* to get the distance I would need with my 56*.

There is not a lot of bounce on 60 degree wedges....make sure there is enough bounce that allows the wedge to slide through the sand as you don't want to open it like you would a 56 degree

Depends on the 60 degree wedge. Check your bounce and if it is low than it would be best in hard or wet sand. If you tend to play softer sand then a higher bounce 10-14 will work best. The loft is not that big of deal as its more the bounce.

The bounce on the 60* is 10*. Should work find then. Most of the sand I play out of is soft. Last year I really only found myself using the 56* out of the bunker. I am not that great of a player to begin with so my sand shots were pretty bad. I just kind of felt like I really did not need the 56*. I will use the 52* and 60* set up and see how that goes. I have a 60* LW with 10* (or maybe 9*) of bounce that I use out of sand. It works well because it gets the ball up much faster than a 56* or 54* would.

I use 51, 54 and 56 degrees wedges from greenside bunkers, depending on the situation.  Technique is as important as what loft you use.  I don't carry a 60, and if I did I wouldn't use it from the sand.  I already tend to hit my 56 too high on bunker blasts, which is why I have the 54 in the bag. For a longer blast I use my 51 GW.

I use my 60 a lot especially if I'm short sided in the bunker. It's a great club to have. If I'm not short sided, it's usually my 56 SW.

I use 60/08 out of the sand for everything and have no issues.  The 54/10 is my next club, but I still prefer the 60 because I can get a good thump and I am very good at controlling the distance.

I've got a 62° 12° lob wedge and I use it in the sand when I'm very close to the hole.

I use my 60/08 if the sand is hard and/or wet. If the sand is fluffy and dry I use my 56/12.  It's all about the lie. The 60 is great off real tight lies. Otherwise I probably wouldn't even carry it.

One thing to consider... note the handicaps of the responders.  Most of those guys who use the 60 degree from bunkers regularly are also single digit handicappers.  I used a 60 for a couple of years for bunker play, but found that I had more flexibility with a 56 or a 54, so I dropped the 60.

In the end it's an individual choice, but I found the 60 to be a more difficult club to be consistent with.
