Yeah when you have a putt to win the meter usually disappears to make it harder.

If you have enough focus or whatever, there should be a button (on the PS3 its triangle) to reduce the pressure before you take a stroke, this will keep if from disappearing.

What uses focus?  I rarely click the button to improve the read or to increase accuracy on a full shot.

You can use it for multiple things: Decreasing pressure, increasing focus, increasing accuracy on shots & puts, adding spin or power to your shots.

2013 Goal:

Single digit handicap

But if you run out of focus, you are temporarily unable to do things like apply spin and power boost.

Picked it up yesterday, and it definitely has a different feel than the previous editions. Also I like how you can import a game file from TW11 and get 50,000 bonus XP points. My golfer is almost 50% on all stats and I just started on the nationwide tour.

This game is very addictive.  I just started the Sony Open my first pro tourney.  I was -2 after the first round T8.  I could have easily been -5 or -6 in the lead if it wasn't for my caddy screwing me big time.  So for the 2nd round I decided I would try more of "gut feeling" shots on putts and I ended up with a -8 and -10 after two rounds.  Just finished the third round and I decided to turn the caddy off of putting and did all my own reading, well let me say thats FOR SURE the way to go.  I finished the round -11 and -21 for the three rounds.  Phil and Tiger are both T2 -12 so I have a nice lead and I think I will be really aggressive this round and see if I can break 60.  My third round was a 61 so here goes for a 59!

I just picked it up this afternoon.  I started my career and put it on Tour-pro level and it's pretty tough.  Came in 2nd in my 2nd Amatuer tourney and I had it won but 3 putted on 17.  If anyone else is playing on PS3 my tag is jonnydanger81.  I haven't played online yet but maybe later on tonight.

I just had my first practice round before the Sony Open and achieved all of the Bronze goals.  I also achieved some of the Silver goals, such as my eagle on the final hole.  However, because I was still working on bronze, it didn't give me the eagle check that helps me towards silver.  Oh well;  even from the black tees, many of those par-5s are very reachable, so I'm sure I'll get another.

Has anyone gotten enough course mastery for it to help them?  I've played a few with bronze mastery and didn't notice much difference.

I can't really tell, but putting is certainly a lot easier now than it was at the beginning. How much that is the XP that I applied to putting and how much is my caddy reading the greens better I couldn't tell you.

It seems that sometimes, my caddy doesn't give me a read on the putt at all.

Also, is anyone else's audio messed up at Waialae?  On #10, a par-5, it says it's the shortest par-4... which is true for the members' #10 hole, #1 on how we're playing it.

Edit: And also on #13.

A lot of times on really long putts he doesn't give a read. "I call this player's choice" my ass.

I haven't had any issues with Waialae, but I don't really listen to the commentary.

Help, please.  I'm not a video game junkie, but I am a golf junkie.  I was joking with my teenagers that I might finally allow a video game player in the house, and its good they're young and healthy, or I'd have had multiple heart failures on my hands.  TW Masters 12 here I come, I think.

My question, what is the best "player" for the game -- XBox, PS3, Wii, or whatever (recognize I have no idea what I'm talking about).  I want a golfing experience at Augusta, and this will be all it is used for.

Thanks in advance!

Go with PS3. If for no other reason than it will also be a bluray player for you.

Thanks! Is that one where you actually "swing" a club, or a controller, or something?  That would definitely sell me!

I own 11 and found it a way to make it through midwest winters, at best.  I ordered a gizmo called a Chicken Stick that lets you put the Wii controler on a very much shortened golf shaft, complete with Golf Pride grip.  It makes the game a lot more fun and playable by adding distance to your shots.  The entire thing is short enough to swing in a room with a 7" ceiling (I'm 5'10").

A couple things I'd like to see in a new version would be an on-demand shot tracer for any shot, like in the "club tuner" section of 11, and a better view of the ball in flight.

    • Yes. If you choose to take the ball out of the bunker instead of taking maximum available relief… it costs a stroke.
    • I got another one today....Number 17. Par 5 that has water left and right on the layup. I smacked a drive down the left side and got a little lazy on the layup and fanned my 6 iron. With 112 to a crowned green I got it to 3 feet and birdie!  Only 5 and 15 is left for this year!
    • Maybe I didn’t explain this properly. Back and front can be confusing.  There was no place in the bunker that didn’t have 2-3 inches of rain water in it, except for a small spot on the slope nearest the pin. If I had dropped there I would be moving 6-7 feet closer to the hole. Since my ball was just inside the bunker, farthest side from the hole, I dropped one club length backward, which brought me out of the bunker. I could not have hit from that deep of water. Are you saying I would have had to take a penalty stroke due to rain water?
    • Day 550, May 5, 2024 Got a good hour in with a typical (for me) two-stick setup: pool noodle angled in front, yardstick on the ground angled 45° behind me.
    • Day 130: Cinco de Mayo Day 7/24 of Full Speed Spectrum training. Difficult training day after struggling to certify my warmup yesterday, and today. Finished 13 mph lower than my training speed on Thursday. Hope to hit some balls today.
