Looking for a ball having this, searched the forum and it might well be the Pro V1x !

I actually played these for a period last summer, liked the performance off the tee, but at the wedges it was not so impressive and in putting they kind of make a loud click.

What are the alternatives and how do they compare ?

I would say the comparatives are the following:

Callaway Tour i

Srixon Z-Star

Bridgestone Tour B330

Taylormade Penta

All of these balls are probably going to be pretty close.  If you can see if your local club fitter can arrange a ball fitting and make sure they start from the green.

You're playing regular flex shafts?

My guess -- I'd suggest the Bridgestone B330 RXS

Made for SS under 100 with a soft feel and very responsive around the greens.

TaylorMade TP Black.  There was a test a couple years ago and it was the longest ball period.  It also spins off a wedge as much as anything else.

My Swingspeed with the driver is about 100-105 and irons around 85-90 Mph ..... so I am in between R and S flex, but apart from the driver I am not close to my max..... so I hit quite straight with the R flex and feel no need to go for a stiffer shaft. With S flex shafts I tend to push drives straight to the right (no slice).

Last months I have been using Z-star yellows (just like the colour) but they feel a bit hard (might be personal).

The ball I would like to play has the reduced side spin of the Pro V1x and the added spin and putting sound/feel of the Pro V1

I have been doubting about the B330-S, I actually like the e5 much, but would like a bit more spin at the wedges. In putting I would prefer a plop sound, instead of the clicking sound the V1x makes.

You must have had a bad batch of ProV's or something.  Their sound off the putter is anything but a "click".  It's more of a thump.  Now, the Callaway's have a definite "click" sound that I don't particularly like, but they seem to roll just fine.  Anyway, any of the above mentioned balls are just fine.  Get a sleeve of the ones you are considering, and see which you like.  What anyone else might should have no bearing on what you play.

Yep, I like the "Thump" sound of the Pro V1, but the Pro V1x makes the clicking sound (at least mine do)...... I would like a ball with the reduced drivers spin of the Pro V1x and the putting sound of the Pro V1 ....... Maybe the B-330S ????

As the B330 S was in the list my pro advised (I have been playing and liked their e5 balls) I went into the club's small shop to see if I could buy some sleeves of premiums balls.

The only ones they had were the Bridgestone RX and RXS and bought a sleeve of the RXS (because I favour a spinnier ball)

It was nice wheather today and I took them into the course and played 9 holes with two balls (Pro V1 and the RXS), had no spinning back balls but a lot of Hop & Stop with both.

Hard to tell differece and draw conclusions from about 25 strokes and a dozen putts, but the Pro V1 felt a bit firmer and the Hop & Stops were about the same. While putting the RXS was almost to soft for me. RXS Drives were a bit shorter. But in full iron shots I had about 10 yds loss with the RXS compared to about equal shots with the Pro V1, but the RXS had even Hop & Stop full iron 7 at one of the holes where I had a long approach shot from the light rough.

With my driver ss of 105-110 Mph ..... maybe the 330S would have been a better choice, but these were not in stock.

I'll be playing 18 holes tomorrow and a tournament on Saturday ....... not convinced and still prefer the Pro V1, but hoping to find some Z-Star and B330-S balls soon.......

The B330S is a great ball.  Midway between a Pro-V1 and a V1x for me.  Can't recall the putting sound however.  Srixon also makes a Z-Star X you may want to look into...

Driver: Taylormade Tour Burner 9.5° | Fairway Wood: Adams Speedline Fast 10 15° | Irons: Mizuno MP-57 3-PW | Wedges: Cleveland CG11 52° 56° 60° | Putter: Odyssey White Hot XG Rossie

    • There are so many videos comparing and contrasting everything that I am both overwhelmed and more than a bit skeptical. Your comments above are much more valuable than hours of you-tube videos. Generally speaking, I’d much prefer to read something that someone took the time and trouble to write (such as your comments) than a bunch of videos, or worse, meaningless reviews that seem like they are all cut and paste selections of the same script. I’m more of a RTFM type than a watcher of “instructional” videos. By way of explanation, I don’t watch TV either.  So thanks - I’ll take that under advisement. I have an H3 that I bought for $10 that I’ve been carrying around but not sure why. Seems like a cool club, but I just don’t really know what to do with it.
    • I was using the window as a mirror. Just trying to be a more aware of the feels for a better backswing. Trying to not be as closed from A1 to A2. Then not letting the club head flip inside. What I was feeling was a pressure my right wrist, and like the palm of my right hand was pushing upward against the grip of the club. My right hand was the underside of the swing path.  Going to play around with this a bit more. It looked pretty decent with mirror/window work. Just wanted to jot it down.
    • Day 4: 3/26/25 Par4Success workout followed by putting through 50 mm gates.
    • Day 249: did a stack putting session and then worked on 5 foot putts for a bit.
    • Day 17 (26 Mar 25) -  Big day working on a project at church - therefore it was grab some time with the 9i in the backyard working on pitch and runs later in the day.  Focused on keeping the ball flighted to get some good rollout.  Hit about 20 shots doing that and then moved to the 54 to keep working on getting good torso rotation and not flipping through it.  Was not perfect as there were some bloopers and fliers but overall a good session on distance control.
