Lucky me as Golfer of the year 2010 ...... I won a Scotty Cameron putter, but I can not decide .... I am sure you can help.........

I have been comparing all models at an indoor practice green and being a mallet player I have a slight preference towards the Studio Select Kombi, but I also like the Studio Select Squareback 1

Please advise !

Golfer of the year 2010? I thought that was Graeme McDowell?!?

You should probably specify that your the golfer of the year at your club or whatever it is....

Getting back to the topic, I love my Newport 2. Great look and have been putting with it really well. Ever since I got it, the number of short putts I'm making has increased. It just fits my stroke better than a mallet.

Did you have any particular preferences out on the putting green?

Seeing as you like mallets, and with SC that is limited to the Kombi, I suggest you look into the Squareback, Fastback, California Del Mar.

All those with a bigger head size will probably fit your eye. But then again, I can't really suggest anything as I've never seen you putt before and do not know which putter looks/feels/works best in your hands.

If it were me I'd go for the SS Fastback or the California Del Mar...

I have allways been putting about straight back, straight trough ..... that is why I like the face balanced heads.

Last year I had some putting lessons and went from straight to arc and bought a Rife Abaco, liked it for a while, but started to miss lots of those short (under 4 ft) putts and went back to my old face balanced Ram Zebra putter. I actually don't need the Scotty, but it sounds like fun to have one that fits my style of putting.

I got a SS Fastback  no. 1 with the plumbers neck, which is a face balanced model, it feels great.

Find a straight putt and choose the model that you aim straight at the hole.

Went to the shop this morning, they had all models in stock ....... I liked the Fastback 1.5 and Squareback 1 most and as I am used to mallets I thought it might be time for a change ....... So I went for the Squareback 1 ....... went to the practice green this afternoon, I like the feel but missed a lot of putts ...... no big deal .... I am used to that.

Does the squareback no. 1 have the plumbers neck? Is that one face balanced like the fastback no. 1?

I am a little late to the party here.  For what it's worth, I would have suggested the Kombi-S if you like mallets.  It's like the regular Kombi but smaller and made of the same metal as the SS Series.  Enjoy the new scotty!

No, the Squareback 2 has a plumbers neck, but has more toe flow and the current Fastback 1.5 is not face balanced like the Fastback 1 was.

The Squareback 1 is near face balanced ...... and I just like the looks, which is about most important in my view in a putter....... faith will follow .....

Well faith didn't follow ..... somehow I could keep misssing those 5 to 6 footers with the Squareback ..... so I asked my dealer if he could try to get me a 2010 Fastback no.1 ...... he managed ..... and now I am totally happy with the Fastback no. 1 ...... went to the putting green at our club ...... GREAT !!!!!

Yepp thanks ......

It is the first putter ...... ever ...... giving me instant succes ...... had 33 putts today and shot a 77.

I am not going to say that I was stupid that I didn't buy one myself before, but these putters cost 339 euro over here (that is $475) ..... yepp I know they cost about $299 in the USA , but how about $80 for transport at least, plus 26% import taxes ........ so it really is a lot of bucks for tapping in a ball.......

I know it is peanutts compared to a new driver, and the next, and the next driver, but it is much more fun compress a ball that hard that it goed out 250 and more .......

But I must admit ...... it feels like being in control with the Scotty ! (uhhhh for the time being )

    • Day 38 (18 Dec 25) - got out in the backyard with grandson this afternoon.  We got into a little game of pitching the ball from about 25yds to a target point just off the asphalt lane behind the backyard.  Goal - just clear it with a quick hop and stop.  Focused on using the wedge swing motion I was talking with the course pro yesterday….smooth and thru just bruising the grass.  In addition to a concentrated focus on technique, it also called for a quiet mind locked in on target point.  Rehearsed this with both the 50° and 55° wedges.
    • I listened to the Shaun Webb one about the swing coach app. Sounds like a great thing and will (hopefully) be very useful for me. I do think the hosts are underestimating where AI could be in a few years. Right now it's just regurgitating stuff that it has been told or it has scrubbed from somewhere else and a human guiding things will be quite a lot more helpful than just the AI, but it's going to keep developing and it will reach the stage where it's figuring this stuff out on its own. Time will come when it will have you do a TPI style screen and take various height/arm length/leg length etc. measurements, have you tell it some history and your time constraints and goals and what not and it will watch a video of your swing face on and DTL and it will know exactly what you need to work on.
    • I found it entertaining, but the announcing was lousy.  How did the measuring on the final shot start with Rory being closer and being told he won, and then with no explanation it turns out Scottie won?  Weird.
    • Day 128 12-18 Worked on rotation and getting to lead side. Still working on the flow feeling while doing that. Recorded swings.
    • IMO-the only thing entertaining was the relay race. Everything else was excruciatingly boring...or just  stupid, like the 14-club thing. Watching guys blade wedges into the water over and over is not at all interesting.
