I Love Hitting a Fade!

Oh, this is it. I can feel it. Sticking with this fade is going to give me the confidence and consistency I need. I've got it down. Tempo, rhythm, balance and power. I love it! I can start the ball left and know that the ball will end up at my target. OB left, no problem! Water left, big deal. Crocodiles left, pfft, whatever. And what's even better, I've still got the draw if necessary! Man golf is fun when you put in the time to practice and build confidence. Yet another reason why Ben Hogan is the greatest ever. Its studying his swing and his approach to the game that is getting my game in check.

Who's with me, who's pro fade?

My natural shot shape is a high draw, but the first couple rounds this year my driver has turned into a hard hook. I adjusted the face 2 degrees open and now i have a nice fade going with the driver. It seemed to give me the confidence I need off the tee.

Sounds awesome! Are you hitting a pull fade or push fade? I've been toying around with a push fade. Lining up more open feels a bit more natural.

When its right, Its neither. Its a fade that starts on the right line and ends up in the right place. Sometimes a mini pull, sometimes a mini push. More often then not its gonna hit the fairway, then green. But its always going right. I shouldn't say "always." I did have just one double-cross one time with all tee shots and all approach shots. And I did have to hit two draws. Other than that, all fades! yay! Sometimes I may overcook a fade and lose a few yards. But if that's my biggest penalty, I feel I'm doing alright.

I agree, a fade is a very useful shot to have. I hit it mostly with my driver, irons are neither this nor that at the moment, more straight really. Best thing is I can keep swinging at the same path!

the only time I hit a fade is when it is necessary. like, around a tree. I hit mostly all draws on par 3. driver is 90% draw. long irons are draw and sometimes I leave the club head a little open and it will be straight. 3 wood is always a draw. when I first started playing, I hit slices. haha. I wouldn't call it a fade. gradually, I learned the mechanics of the golf swing and eventually just hit draws for the extra yardage.

I love the fade, When its going its pretty to see. I like it because i think its a softer shot to me, i have the distance to play it.

I too am a reformed "hooker"  I have found the fade much easier to control, I tended to over cook my draw sometimes with catastrophic results, usually OB, usually resulting in a double.  The right side of the course usually has more room as well, if you do over cook your fade it's still in bounds and more importantly in play.  Another advantage, how many dog leg rights versus dog leg lefts, at least 2 to 1 for the rights, maybe more. If you have the distance you can't go wrong as far as I am concerned, and if your hitting the power fade correctly you shouldn't loose more than 10 yards unless your going into a strong headwind

Unless you're on a Nicklaus Design and they all tend to have a little bend to the right...

I'm working on having a fade...having consistency issues. Some days, I can do with the driver and not with the irons. Others, I have it with the irons and not with the driver. I've always been able to cut my scoring clubs at will, but trying to be able to do it throughout my bag. My natural shot shape is a push draw or a straight draw, so it's "been a process".

Yep...

I like that little fade off the tee with the miss being straight or a little more than slight fade.  IE: it doesn't hurt when you miss.  I tend to hit everything else straight to straight baby draw, but will occasionally hit an iron fade to hold a shot against a draw wind (that's a nice looking shot when it works) or if working toward an extreme right pin.   I think the fade is underrated by the masses, but seen as valuable by more advanced golfers especially if they have been through the valley of hooks.

Sorry I'm the party pooper...hate the look of a fade off an amatures club...a touring pro maybe OK..most guys 8 hdcp or above dont hit fades they have modified slices with horrible swing paths...and take it to bizare extremes...(ie 20 or 30 yards).  However, I'm sure you are the exception.

First of all, how many players below 15 have you seen the actual swing path of? Second, what is the problem with a pull-fade? A slice is a slice, a fade is a fade. Yes, both move left to right, but the latter is a smaller version, most of the time a preferable shot as opposed to the slice. Not every touring pro comes from the inside you know, they hit pull-fades as well.

The handicap of people in this thread range from 11 to +2 by the way, I'm sure at least one of them hit a push-fade.

I hate fade shots but solely because every single family member who plays golf has a fade shot and all the courses they choose favour a fade. Cheaters. ;)

don't mind a fade, but I like a straight ball that goes where you aim it.
