I haven't swung a club in 6 months until yesterday.  Life kind of got in the way...  But I had some friends call and ask me to play in a scramble at the end of this month. So, I figured I needed to go to the range and see where my game was.  Wow!!!  How depressing!  I hit every shot you can think of.  I couldn't hit my driver at all.  My irons were fat, thin, off target, etc....Finally by then end of the session I to where I was hitting my 7i and 8i pretty descent.  I can't believe how far off my game fell.  Oh well...I'm sure it's nothing a few more range session won't fix, or at least get me to a descent level of play.

Exactly the same story here. Back to Golf (and this website) after a 6 month lay off. Went straight out and played 18 holes on Tuesday with a friend and embarrased myself for 15 holes, at which point I suddenly remembered a few simple things like hands in, clubhead out on the takeaway and bumping the hips to start the downswing and hey-presto, started driving it well and finding the last few greens with ease. So stick at it, it'll all come back to you. You can't say it's like riding a bike.. because there's so many things to remember, but eventually you'll figure it all out again. For me, those 3 decent holes brought the golfing bug back as strong as ever.

By the way, is it just me or does the forum seem kind of quiet? As I said, it's been roughly 6 months since I've been here and I remember it being a lot more active than it is now. Strange.

The first day back to the range after winter.  I so both dread and look forward to this day.  Will probably happen this weekend.

Hi there! It's me, your northern neighbor.  Don't remember me?  Some people call me Canadian Golfer.  Six months off is the norm around these parts, unless you live in BC (lucky s.o.b's).

I went back to the range today and man was it a better day!!  It was mainly a posture issue and tempo issue. I also think I have figured out a good tip for my flipping problem.  I read on here somewhere to think of your left wrist beating your right to the ball.  That works for me.  I have ordered a camera and tripod and will start really working on my swing now.  I just wanted to get something going before this scramble next week.  I know it's just a scramble, but I want to be able to contribute...

I will hopefully be getting out for my first round in about 6 months this Saturday, providing the weather cooperates, looking a little iffy. I have a nice advantage that I am the music teacher and our band room is carpeted so I actually do quite a bit of swinging over the winter and have gone into the gym a few times with the 1/3 golf balls, not the same though. I am really getting excited but also dreading things a bit, thankfully there is a driving range right up the road from the course so I can start there. I have cabin fever bad right now and we are supposed to get 2-4 inches of snow tomorrow, greeeaaat!

Well, I had to back out of this scramble because of a torn hamstring.  So, I have been nursing the hamstring and going through 2 weeks of training for work and I am finally back home.  I played my first 9 hole round this past Saturday (it was actually after an 18 hole scramble I played with some buddies).  I shot 37.  I was really impressed!!  I played well all day.  I hit my driver better than I hit it all last year. I really think I would have shot under par had my feel around the greens been there.  But it has been 7 months since I actually played a round (a few range times here and there).  I didn't have my distance control that much either.  I made some bad club decisions, my short game distances were going too far with no spin (greens were pretty hard), and my putting was off.  So, to shoot a 37 with all of that going on, it has sparked my competitiveness to get back to work on my game.

I received my camera a few weeks ago and I plan on working with evolvr to work on my swing.  Anyway, just thought I would share my success after such a long layoff and the leg issues.

Hey, good score for the first time out in a while (the scramble must have warmed you up a bit). I agree; nothing like shooting a decent score for the golf bug to bite ya hard.

Stay healthy, and happy hitting.

Thanks. Yeah, it did and didn't.  I haven't played in so long and been out of the gym, that the scramble actually wore me out.  That is why I only played 9 after the scramble.  I wanted to finish 18, but I knew as tired as I was, it would only hinder my score.  So I stopped on a high note.

But from the first drive on, I was playing much better than expected.  It was the best round of driving I have had in a while.  Short game needs some reps and there are some things that I need to get back to work on with my swing (will be talking with you soon Iacas!), but I feel like I'm back to my old self now.  Hopefully I can get these things worked out this year and get back to my tournament goal next year.
