My goals for this year were to break into the 70's. Last year I was in the low to mid 80's on a good day.

I have forced myself to practice more this year. Putting, Chipping and at the driving range. I try to at least putt and chip 4 time a week for 1-2 hours. This is the part of the game that I and most amateurs struggle with. This year I have had a lot of improvement. I also try to hit balls at least twice a week.

Well at the end of May I achieved my goal for the year. I shot a 79 and that was with a double bogey on the last hole. GRRRR. Since then I have played quite a few times and have played very consistent.

Then just last weekend I had everything working. I started the day out birdie, par, birdie. I was just waiting all day for that one bad hole or two I usually have, but they never came. I ended the day with a 73, hitting 14/18 GIR. Hopefully I can keep playing consistent and shoot in the 70's a few more times this year.

My goal in January was to reduce my handicap from 23 to 18, i managed to get it to 21 early in the year when i was playing once a week, for the last two months i have been playing 2-3 times a week and have lost another 2 strokes. i am scoring well at the moment so i definetly think i will achieve my goal very soon.

Practice my short game much more. I seriously am one of the worst putters ever. I can generally play some great sand shots, chips, pitches, etc. Whenever I get the flat stick in my hands is when everything falls apart. I just don't understand. My handicap right now is a 2.2 and I guarantee that it isn't less than .5 because of my putting.

Become more consistent I generally shoot mid-low 70's everwhere, but every now and then an upper 70's to an 80 will sneak in there and mess me up.

Confidence I have none of this. Mainly because of my putter. Build my confidence level with the series of tournaments I am about to start playing in so that walking onto my schools golf team will be a breeze when I finish my Co-op.

I have just a few weak areas in my game that I can recognize. It's frustrating because I know if I can take care of those then I know I can compete with just about anyone.

I want to consistantly hit 90 or better & never ever venture into the 100's again.

3 aspects of the game I need to work on are pitching, putting & confidence.

My revised goals for this year are to get under a 10 handicap by the end of the year, and to get more consistent with driving accuracy and lag putting. Those two are killing my game and I can save five if not ten strokes a round that way.

My goal by year's end is to be a single digit handicapper. If I can move from 13 to a 9 or 8 I will be happy. I would ideally like for my bad days to be no worse than an 85 and my good days to be down around 75.

My goal this year, is to break 80. I've shot a few 9 hole scores in the 30's, but can never put two sides together. My personal best is an 82, which I've shot 3 or 4 times. A decent round for me is usually 84-86.

    • When you are penalized for hitting into the sand trap the penalty is having to hit it out of the sand, not out of three inches of water. A sand trap is not the same as a water hazard. A sand trap is not supposed to be under water. It is a unique condition caused  by weather and poor drainage. Most local leagues like ours allow the free drop in this type of situation, as long as there is no area in the bunker to legally drop. This is what I’m talking about, sometimes the official rules of golf don’t align with common sense. That’s why they are finally starting to change them. For example, when wind blows your ball off the green. That was a stupid rule. People being able to call the tv network to say they saw a players ball move. That was a stupid rule. I’m just saying, these are rules made up a long time ago, and it’s time to modernize them.
    • Consider it another way: normally, it's a two-stroke penalty to move your ball out of a bunker (unplayable). The ACC reduces it to just one.
    • No, hitting into a hazard that is supposed to be avoided and is designed to be penalizing is not the same as hitting it into the middle of the fairway.   You are penalized because you hit it into a hazard. Based on your logic let's say you hit it into a red staked penalty area and you could normally play it but it's in temporary casual water from rain. Would you expect a free drop from there too??
    • They could have declared it GUR, sure. It is. It's temporary water, and as I said before, an abnormal course condition (ACC). That's what rule 16 is about — ACCs. No, a bunker ≠ the middle of the fairway. You are penalized because you hit it into a bunker. As for the rest… let's stick to the topic. Yep.
    • It's not dumb. It's dumb to randomly allow a free drop that provides an advantage you don't deserve. And your committee had the option of determining it GUR. Did you talk to them?
