I am new to the sport and I am wondering about the lenght of the clubs i should use I have a set of ping irons that my uncle gave me but i feel so hunched over when i used them. I bought a new taylor made driver and it was about 2.5" longer thatn the old one and it feels so much more comfortable. Do i need longer irons as well, I know i should go get fitted but cant afford to drop a grand on a new set of clubs. I am 6'4" just thinking maybe i can get new shafts installed or possibly find a used set that is longer.

They are probably too short for you given your height unless your uncle is tall as well.  Go to a pro shop for a static fitting.  If I remember right, "standard length" clubs are for people up to 6'1" or 6' 2".  It also has to do with the distance of your wrists to the ground.   Here is a table I found you can use as a reference.

Check out Pings Website, they do a good job with club fitting, and have some nice graphs..

Go get fitted.  At the very least, get a static fit.  All the charts say I should play a "standard" length, whatever that is, but my irons are +1".  What is "standard" varies by manufacturer.  A static fitting will at least tell you if you need them lengthened/shortened or the lie adjusted.  You can usually have your irons lengthened from 1" to 1-1/2" without any issues.  No need to drop money on a new set or to have them reshafted (unless a different shaft would fit you better).

FWIW, my buddy is your heigth, and his irons are + 1/2".

Thats why i like ping's website, they take your height and your wrist length from the ground. So they take into consideration those with longer arms, or shorter arms. Which would give a true representation of club length neede

Ping's site put me at a standard length, 1" shorter than I was fitted for.  There must be more to it...... leg length, stance, posture, etc?
