That's odd. I think that's the opposite of most people.

Make sure you're coming down at the ball. Hands forward helps a lot.

May be overswinging on your takeaway. Check in mirror, make sure you're not overdoing it coming back.

When playing, check and see where you're hitting ball on clubface. If it's toward toe, you may have slight over-the-top move, which sometimes goes with overswing.

My pro says experienced golfers sometimes can catch themselves and not completely miss the shot, but hit it fat when trying to get balance back on downswing.

Focus, connect and follow through!

Make sure you are putting your hands ever so slightly ahead of the ball at your setup. I did that today and it worked wonders.

Something similar had been happening to me recently (just on my 52* gw and 56* sw).  Chunky or thin.  Even on the rare solid feeling shots (with my sw), it only went @ 70 yards on a full swing.  I didn't know what was going on.  I seriously considered calling BALCO to order the cream, clear and flaxseed oil because I lost @ 30 yards on my sw.  I discovered that I had been trying to steer shots with those clubs, so I was hitting them with just my upper body.  My lower body literally just froze on those swings.  Once I incorporated my lower body back into the swing (and worked out the proper sequencing), my CDD (contact, distance and direction) returned.

I'd say your ball position is too far in front of your swing bottom.  Most of these tips move your swing bottom up to the ball.  I'd rather move the ball back before the swing bottom.  Take some practice swings and stub the ground and find out where in relation to your body the club hits the ground.  Then put the ball right before that point so you hit it first.

    • I generally like par-3 courses and find it a darn shame that the last of them closed in my area during the pandemic. Part of it may have to do with the fact that I never have been very good with the longer clubs, so the short holes are a bit more my speed.  Being able to get in 18 holes in two hours was pretty convenient and, ironically, the lack of crowds made them peaceful places to be. Naturally, that's the same reason they no longer exist around here.  The second option sounds like a whole lot of no fun.
