I just bought a set of black dot Eye2 +no+ in 1-iron thru W. Had them in the bag for a few rounds and liked the playability. I will keep them just because I enjoyed the solid, assuring feel at impact. I pulled them from the bag in favor of my Bridgestone J36 combos, but mainly for the shaft. The ZZ Lite shafts in the Eye2's is about as stiff as it gets. On top of that the lofts are very weak. Great for hitting really high shots with a stronger iron than you would normally use, but it messed with my head quite a bit on the course. Very fun to play, though.

Ping Eye 2 irons are the best irons every created.  For whatever reason they feel completely different than any other cavity back iron out there.  Better than forged.  The ZZ-Lite shaft is largely responsible for this and any other shaft with these irons is second rate.  It's a lightweight, stiff shaft with a mid/high kickpoint but with a soft tip.  This can only be explained as sublime and pure joy.  I have played these irons for 25 years and there is nothing out there that compares.  I have tried all of the old lines and all of the new lines of irons and none compare.  The only way to go is with the Ping Eye 2 square groove model with ZZ-Lite or "K" shafts.  I'm not talking about the KT or KT-M shafts.  The feel can only be described as soft and crisp.

I've still got the PING Eye 2's that I gamed as a kid. Great irons. As much as I love my blades, I'll always keep my Eye 2's. I try to game them at least once every year.

I've been paired up with one or two guys in the last year who were playing them, so they're definitely still in use.

There were made for several years and were undoubtedly the most popular iron series in the history of golf. I'd be shocked if there aren't a lot of people still using them. I've only hit them a couple times and didn't like them, but on the pro level, the results speak for themselves.

They were the first set of clubs I ever owned and I still have my original set.  I don't play with them anymore.  My dad still plays his however.  Interestingly enough I bought a nice second hand leather golf bag 2-3 weeks ago and the craigslist add indicated the bag would include a free set of irons and a driver.  To my surprise when I picked the bag up the irons were a set of ping eye 2's (with some old aldilia graphite shafts).

When I saw the irons and that the bag was exactly what I was looking for the thought crossed my mind to offer more money and I almost feel bad that I paid so little for the Mulholland Brothers bag and a set of eye2's (missing pw but included sw).

This was my fathers first set of irons. He had them for years and he would never think of getting rid of them. The the Ping Raptures came out and he put his eye 2's in retirement and bought the raptures. He loves his eye 2's so it was hard for him to put them down but he is shotting a lot better golf now with the newer clubs.

I found a set at the thrift store for 6.66. It was missing one iron. I use fitted g30's and compared the length of an eye 2  five iron and found it was the length of my g30 7 iron. Funny thing is It carries as far as my G30 5 iron and feels so good. So I am thinking why not hit shorter clubs with less loft if the distance is the same? Should be a no brainer right? But today i played with my G30s and the eye 2's sit in the back of my jeep.

    • Is it? I bought the Stack radar to replace my PRGR based on what Stack told me! When I am swinging for speed, the PRGR would miss 50%-80% of my backswings due to a higher speed. The stack seldom misses those- at least for me.
    • As an analyst by nature, I would like to compare the scores under both systems. It is something we can easily do if we have the data. I actually thought the new system was less fair to those whose game was on the decline - like mine! Old: Best 10 of last 20 scores with the .96 multiplier. Course handicap excluded course rating and overall par. New: Best 8/20. Course handicap includes course rating -par. My understanding is Stableford caps scores at Net double bogey like stroke play. If so, handicap should be slower to rise because you are only using 8 versus 10 scores. If I am missing something, I am curious enough to  want to understand what that may be. My home course tees that I play are 72.1/154 now. My best score out here is 82. When my game started to decline, my handicap didn’t budge for 13 rounds because of good scores in my first 8! I know I am an anomaly but my handicap has increased almost 80% in the past few years (with only a few rounds this year). For a few months I knew I was losing every bet because my game was nowhere near my handicap. I suspect I have steamrolled a few nuances but that shouldn’t matter much. When I have modeled this with someone playing the same tees and course, one good round, or return to form, will immediately reduce the handicap by some amount.
