How important is club loft spacing to you? Does it really matter if the spacing is uneven or are you happy enough knowing how far you hit each club?

The main reason I ask is that I'm unsure on what to do with my new irons.

My old Nike Sumo SQ's had the following loft spacing between clubs:

CLUB

#4 #5 #6 #7 #8 #9 #PW #SW
LOFT 23 26 30 34 38 42 46 55

I added 3 Titleist Vokeys with 4 degrees of loft between each of them to make the set more consistent:

CLUB #4 #5 #6 #7 #8 #9 #PW #AW #SW #LW
LOFT 23 26 30 34 38 42 46 50 - 8 bounce 54 - 11 bounce 58 - 8 bounce

With my new Yonex VMS's though the lofts are stronger by 0.5 to 2.5 degrees per club right up to the #AW which is the same.

The question I'm faced with then is whether I should keep as much of the 'set' of irons together as possible and use the set #AW and #SW, removing the #LW from my bag as 2 degrees doesn't seem worth carrying or do I keep the Vokeys and not use the set #AW and #SW?

For reference the VMS lofts are:

CLUB #4 #5 #6 #7 #8 #9 #PW #AW #SW
LOFT 22.5 25.5 28.5 31.5 35.5 39.5 45 50 56

Well, the gap spacing on the Nike set is 3,4,4,4,4,4,4,4,4 (4-LW).

The VMS set is 3,3,3,4,4,5.5,5,6 (4-SW).

If it was me, I would swap the VMS's gap and sand wedges with the 3 Vokeys since you already have them.  Then you would be 3,3,3,4,4,5.5,5,4,4.

Figuring there is probably a +/- 1° variance in loft from the factory specs, you should be OK.

did you have them measured for loft? I had a few clubs from my stock set that were only 2 degrees spacing. So even the +/- 1° can be off, always good to check..

Usually 3-4 for lower lofted clubs and 4-5 for higher lofted clubs is typical.

I was wondering the same thing. I have callaway x 20s and the spacings are as follows: 4-24* 5-27* 6-30* 7-33* 8-37* 9-41* PW-45* Vokey sm4 50/12 SW- 55* Vokey sm4 60/12 I feel like it's a nice setup and I feel like the gaps are really just what you prefer and it's more about being comfortable with certain distances or shots with certain clubs and practicing enough to find out what works when you need it to.

My Cleveland CG16 Satin Chrome irons are strong and so my setup is:

4-21°

5-24°

6-27°

7-31°

8-35°

9-39°

PW-44°

Then I have 50° & 56° MD Golf NV Drew wedges. 6° gaps for wedges is fine for more as I'm good at working the wedges well, but most golfers seem to have a 5° or 4° gap between their wedges.

Thinking about adding a 60° loft as well which I can bend to 61° or 62° if I think I can handle it.

3 Wood - 15° Callaway Diablo Octane

Hybrid - 18.25° & 21° Titleist 913H

Irons 5-PW - Cleveland CG16 Satin Chrome

Gap Wedge - 50° MD Golf NV Drew Standard Bounce

Sand Wedge - 56° Cleveland 588 RTX

Lob Wedge - 60° Cleveland 588 RTX

Putter - Cleveland Classic Black Platinum 6

    • You all are right, its not that big of an issue, I'll leave it alone, especially after looking at that picture of Tigers beat up putter. But I also noticed the small circle worn on the sweet-spot where he hits it every time, I definitely don't have one of those. Thanks for the replies
    • Committing to one brand of ball this year - Snell MTB Prime X, the 5 doz. pack. Like how they perform for me. At $18/doz., can live with cover scuffing. Iron regripping with GolfPrice MCC+4 Teams std. in red/navy. May be retiring Odyssey Dual Force after 30 yrs. Seems like I can't get it to the hole anymore. Kind of light and has lots of toe hang. My reg. group's hounding finally wore me down.    From Callaway preowned - trying out the Odyssey Tri-Hot 5K in double wide (less toe hang) and triple wide (face balanced). Both also noticeably heavier...we shall see.
    • WOW, it looks like he has been hitting stones with that putter to put all of those nicks into it.  I can't see how a ball would cause many those dings.
    • I'm fighting a knee as well as a foot so I "Feel your pain".  Luckily for me the PT is helping at this time and I am hoping knee surgery is not imminent.  Best of luck to you.
