Does anyone know what happened to Chuckie Three-Sticks? (Charles Howell III)? He was one of my favorite up-and-coming young guys. Saw him play once and he was amazing. He's been sucking it up lately. Anyone know what happened? Did he start smoking crack?

He had his problems in certain tournaments last year but won over 1.5 million and ended up 52nd on the 2006 money list. I would hardly call that sucking.

You might see him this weekend at the Sony. He is listed in the field anyway. As far as the crack goes, who knows these days. Isn't that on the list of performance enhancing drugs that the LPGA is starting to test?

Hi to The Turlock Kid

conspicuous in your absence

Charles Howell3 will be just another journeyman sadly i think

off topic-no David Duval at this weeks Sony open-surprising as he did so well in the event last year-maybe he's practising..who knows!

by the way-has anyone read John Daly autobiography..there's nothing in it and the print is massive..its more like a book for a toddler, and the price is unbelievable!!!..£18.99..thats 26 dollars ish..far to expensive id say, and your money will probably end up in a slot amchine in a casino somewhere!!

This is Charles' year damnit!

Ok, so I say that every season, but why stop now? He is going to break through, even if it happens Fred Funk style.

Like NM Golf said, 52nd on the money list and over 1.5 million in money is still pretty darn solid. It's not good enough for CH3's biggest fan though. :/

I'm a bit surprised myself at Charles' low profile. I watched him at the Buick Invitational last year and his ironplay and focused demeanor were impressive. I'm hoping to see him at the same event in a couple or three weeks. Anyway, I'll be looking for him to do well at Torrey Pines this year (I'm assuming he's playing), he doesn't seem like a flash in the pan. But for sure, men's golf is a tough business to be in.

I know CH3 still has to play a solid weekend, but he shot an impressive 63 in the second round at Sony today. He is currently in fourth place and two shots off the lead. The field is pretty solid as well, so this should give him some much needed confidence.

Hopefully Chuckie can keep things headed in the right direction and at least finish in the top 4 or 5.

So damn close. Near the end I didn't know who to pull for, him or Goydos. I really liked seeing Goydos do so well in Disney last year to keep his card and his round 3 (22 putts) was a beauty. I am sad for Charlie (as Rocco called him) but overjoyed for Goydos.

Even Luke winning would have been fine, but we all know he will get plenty of more chances, as should CH III.

Edit - It wasn't the Disney Funai, it was the Chrysler where Goydos kept his card.

No offense, but finishing in the top ten isn't his biggest problem.

Poor Chuckie. Him and Luke (my two favs) had a good showing, though.

Awesome finish to the tournament (not for Luke and Chuckles) for the people sitting at home watching. Gotta feel bad for Chuckles, looks like he took it bad.

Hi to The Turlock Kid

I don't see Howell as a journeyman, he just needs a few breaks to go his way. He's been pushed into second place numerous times by miracle shots. If he gets on a winning streak look out!!!!

    • 70 today. The number looks good but, the course is a par 67 (5,110 yards, 64.3/115.). While the 70 took quite a few good shots to achieve, I am not counting that as shooting my age.
    • Played our town’s executive course this morning. Everything is closing but for now Huron Hills remains open. #13 is shaped like an upside down backwards L (dogleg left). Only 231 yard par 4. Dogleg has a tree guarding the corner and a sand bunker guards the green for those cutting the dogleg. Tiny green. About 10 years ago or more I would try to cut the dogleg. The hole is so short that even if one tangled with the tree or was bunkered, par was likely and birdie was still on the table. Now in my 70’s, I just hit it straight and try to wedge it close for birdie. Today I screwed up and pulled my drive. I wandered around a bit when my ball was not in the bunker. Finally located it on the approach to the green. Almost chipped in and tapped in the 2 inches for birdie. Best unintentional shot of the week. 😲

    • Why wouldn't it have? It's not like you were playing it as a 145yd par 5 and made a 2 or something.  Or not like it was playing 50yds to a temporary green or something either.
