Recenty i have been battling some pitching troubles. I have lost complete confidence when i am faced with a pitch shot around the green especially off the fairway. I either thin the ball or mostly hit it fat. I have had many people tell me i am deccelerating at impact so i have been working on this but i still have the odd shot that feels fine but the club litterally goes straight under the ball and i fluff it 10 15 metres in front of me! Help! Is there is a possibilty this is because i am using the wrong wedges with the wrong bounce angles?

MB,

Check out this video.

Read Stan Utley's, Secrets of the Short Game .

Post a video if you can.  The feeling you should get on pitching is your lower body pivot is providing the power to move the club and not your arm swing.  Eric gave me a good swing thought; the club head should almost feel like it is just dropping with gravity.  As it drops your lower body pivot accelerates the club through impact.  Because your weight is on your front foot, and your lower body is accelerating the club, the club's bounce will hit the ground just before the ball and pop the ball into the air.

Practice this a lot to gain confidence.  You may be decelerating because of fear of sculling to ball.  With this method, the fear should go away.

Sounds like a flip to me.  Make sure (on pitches especially) that you're striking the ball with a forward leaning shaft.  These 50-yard pitches should be some of the most consistent and reliable shots in your bag.

Problem with all the nice chipping video's is that it is hard to see, what you are actually looking for ......

Most people (including my self at times) have the weight to neutral or even at the backfoot when chipping/pitching the short shots and it has mostly to do with the position of the ball.

If you put the ball in the middle of you stance and that can be more or less from the inside of the right ankle in a narrow stance, with the left foot a bit opened .... if you then shift the weight for 70% to your front foot, the grip about by it self gets before the ball with the shaft leaning forward.

Focus on that weight forward, shaft will lean forward automaticly, hit the ball first, ground in front of the ball after the ball is hit ....... the only way to be in control !
