Followed another group of dreamers last night. Thankfully not in any hurry, was there mostly to practice around the greens so I didn't make any attempt to get close enough to pass them. When I got close I waited on the cart path and sipped beer, it was really nice last night. Anyway they  played blacks recommended for 5-11 handicaps, 6950 yards with par 4's in the 450 range. These clowns were probably in the 25 range. Short hitters and all over the place. See the construction area in the pic, they hit their balls so far right into that Sarah Palin couldn't find it. Spent probably 8-9 minutes looking before they dropped one. Funny thing was they went to the other side near the cart path and dropped on the short grass. I was about to pee my pants I was laughing so much watching them on this hole.

A little commentary about our prospective right sided political vice president 6 years ago? :-$

I played 2 seniors and one lady today, and they played the correct tees. Generally, bogey golf. Which for their distances was phenomenal.

It was a really enjoyable round lasting about a leisurely 4:15 hours.

I've never seen a senior off the wrong tees, but many late 20's to early 30's players that were definitely on the wrong ones.

A little bit guilty myself of using the wrong tees:

However, I have been guilty of going on the tees designed for the 275 yard players before. The additional 28 yards did not seem that unreasonable.

It's a symptom of being so far out. If I don't play in this area it's a lot of driving and the city courses are usually booked open to close. To get from where I live in Brighton, near Barr lake, to Westminster is about 40-50 minutes in traffic. I have booked times as late as 6:40 PM at the 9 hole course at Hyland Hills. But that's a pretty long day, working 9-6 then driving 40-50 minutes twice to play 9 holes. Weekends it's not a problem but I work until 6. Just to get to the home course a few minutes away requires leaving a little early to get there before they put carts up for the day.

I've never seen so much slow play before just the last 3-4 weeks have been bad. But it's been real bad. I think some of it due to I've simply played too much golf. It doesn't feel like a special day or anything. I'm not as excited to get out as I once was. My goals are more score and goals related now than when I just went to have fun. If I get there and it's a death march it feels like a waste of time. I'm spending around $150 on tee times just to leave angry because I've either had to wait or skip holes. So some of it is on me. If I get there and start wishing I wasn't it's usually not a good time.

You need to come to Florida. My home course(s) book over 2.3 million tee times a year. I play 3 to 4 times a week. I will admit we have had to wait many times to hit a shot but I've never played a round over 10 minutes past the 4:15 target time, and that's the exception not the rule. The rates are great, weekdays are the same as weekends. I can play 18 in the morning for $26, $18 after 11 am and $6 after 5 pm. Can usually get the full 18 in after 5 if there is no traffic, but definitely 9+. Rates are about 25% more in the winter. Come on down. http://www.golfthevillages.com/

I wish. Haven't been on vacation since 2005. Two blind dogs that require Rx 4x a day and owning a biz is a ball and chain.

    • Never practiced golf when I was young and the only lesson ever taken was a driver lesson. I feel like I'm improving every year. However, the numbers don't support my feeling about improving. I usually drop to 12-13 during the summer while playing the familiar courses around home and then go on golf trips in the fall to new courses and increase to end the year between 15-17. Been a similar story for a number of years now but hey, it's the best thing there is in life so not too bothered but reaching 9.9 is the objective every year. Maybe a few lessons and practice could help me achieve it since I pretty much have no idea what I'm doing, just playing and never practice.
    • I am semi-loyal. Usually buy four dozen of one ball and only play that until out and then determine whether to continue or try another one. Since starting my semi-loyal path to success, I've been playing the below, not in order: ProV1 ProV1x ProV1x left dash AVX Bridgestone BXS Srixon Z-star XV I am not sure if it has helped anything, but it gives a bit of confidence knowing that it at least is not the ball (while using the same one) that gives different results so one thing less to mind about I guess. On the level that I am, not sure whether it makes much difference but will continue since I have to play something so might as well go with the same ball for a number of rounds. Edit: favorite is probably the BXS followed by ProV1/Srixon Z-star XV. Haven't got any numbers to back it up but just by feel.
    • Will not do it by myself, going to the pro shop I usually use after Cristmas for input and actually doing the changes, if any, but wanted to get some thoughts on whether this was worthwhile out of curiosity.
    • In terms of ball striking, not really. Ball striking being how good you are at hitting the center of the clubface with the swing path you want and the loft you want to present at impact.  In terms of getting better launch conditions for the current swing you have, it is debatable.  It depends on how you swing and what your current launch conditions are at. These are fine tuning mechanisms not significant changes. They might not even be the correct fine tuning you need. I would go spend the $100 to $150 dollars in getting a club fitting over potentially wasting money on changes that ChatGPT gave you.  New grips are important. Yes, it can affect swing weight, but it is personal preference. Swing weight is just one component.  Overall weight effects the feel. The type of golf shaft effects the feel of the club in the swing. Swing weight effects the feel. You can add so much extra weight to get the swing weight correct and it will feel completely different because the total weight went up. Imagine swinging a 5lb stick versus a 15lb stick. They could be balanced the same (swing weight), but one will take substantially more effort to move.  I would almost say swing weight is an old school way of fitting clubs. Now, with launch monitors, you could just fit the golfer. You could have two golfers with the same swing speed that want completely different swing weight. It is just personal preference. You can only tell that by swinging a golf club.
    • Thanks for the comments. I fully understand that these changes won't make any big difference compared to getting a flawless swing but looking to give myself the best chance of success at where I am and hopefully lessons will improve the swing along the way. Can these changes make minor improvements to ball striking and misses then that's fine. From what I understood about changing the grips, which is to avoid them slipping in warm and humid conditions, is that it will affect the swing weight since midsize are heavier than regular and so therefore adding weight to the club head would be required to avoid a change of feel in the club compared to before?
