I used to watch every round of almost every tournament.  After struggling to maintain interest all season long I have devolved into a guy who watches many, but not all, Sundays and, of course, the majors.

I can't be the only one - this season is boring!  Do you think the prizes for tournaments will eventually start to drop?  How long do you think that would take?

This week is a great example of a total, utter and complete snooze-fest.  I doubt I will even watch Sunday.

This is not to take anything away from the golfers on the tour or the guys who have won this year.  But I don't see anybody with the star-power to come close to replacing Tiger and eventually that will have to show up in the bottom-line, won't it?

I think the purses will eventually start to come back down. The TV viewership just isn't there without Tiger.

Hello AmazingWhacker, have you checked out this discussion http://thesandtrap.com/forum/thread/48015/new-wgc-event-to-start-in-2012

They are planning to organize the richest event ever in 2010, it's gonna be played in South Africa: US10$ million ;)

If tournament money does decline, it won't just be due to Tiger.  U.S. Businesses are facing constant pressure from their shareholders to be profitable and financially responsible in these tough economic times.  Marketing spends on tournament and stadium sponsorships have to show a real return if they are going to continue at the current levels.

It's going to be tough in the next few years if Tiger doesn't get back into form and contend at some tournaments. Purses will decline as well as TV ratings..

With that being said, if we are lucky enough to possibly see a Tiger-McIlroy pairing at a big tournament then that could lead to some of the highest rated golf in a long time..

if rory continues form, he might well pick up the torch where tiger left off. only question is, how many tournaments sill he play in the states.s

He said he would play more if he was allowed to. He has no interest in playing the playoffs because some of his favourite European events are on at that time, which basically means its a max of 10 events for him since he won't join the Tour. He said he would play 12-13 times a year in America if he was allowed to. I expect they will change the rules if Rory continues his good form

    • Yeah, let's just ignore that there were only 5-10 great players back then… 🤣 Ha ha ha. Whatever you guys have to tell yourselves… Tiger won MAJORS 22 years apart. That's a long time. He wasn't missing the top ten on the money list because he sucked, it's because he didn't play due to injuries.
    • Pretty accurate.  Another way you can look at it is how many years was Jack top 10 on the money list. It used to be the list that mattered, nothing else came close. Jack was top 10 from 1962-1978 and then once more in 1983 making 18 years total. He had another 4 inside the top 20. He was #1 8 times.  Tiger was top 10 from 1997-2009, 2012-2013, and 2018 which is 16 times total. His next best were 24th and 38th in 2019-2020. He was #1 10 times.  Honestly, they're both pretty long but Jack has quite a few more seasons in the upper ranks. Makes sense when Tiger barely played in 2010-2011 and then again from 2015-2017, and pretty much 2020 onwards. That's not an excuse for Tiger though.
    • Bangers and mash. In keeping with the golf theme.🫢
    • Played three and a half rounds in England last week. I will not be playing more than maybe 4 rounds on any one course. Probably only about 20 rounds all year and between 4 and 8 of those will be alternate shot, so don't really count. Off to a pretty good start though. Three and a half rounds gave me 5 birdies and an eagle (with two of those birdies being on the same hole number).
    • First round of 2026. No birdies and a very pedestrian 86. Maybe I should have hit a few balls over the past 100 days. Next year!
