Player Iron's

This spring I am going to purchase a new set of irons.

"Why spring?" you ask, because I am in Michigan and I am freezing my A** off.

I am looking for a player's iron that is also forgiving.

I have played blades all my life,"right now Taylormade TP's."

Now I'm switching over to a little more forgiving iron.

If you like any irons along the lines of what I'm looking for, post a response please.

I do love the Mizuno MP 60. A perfect Muscle Back Iron Nice to look at (nearly like a blade) and so soft when you hit the ball right

I've always heard great things about Mizuno, and I think Titleist makes a great players iron, but you may as well try a bunch out. I would say based on design the most forgiving players irons would be the R7 TPs, Titleist 755s, or maybe Adams Idea players irons. Good luck!

If you like the top line look of a blade but more forgiving feel try the Mizuno MP-67. I tried the the MP-60 and the MP-67 and if you blindfolded me I would not know the difference. The both feel like butter to me. I like a very thin top line.

I went with the 755s. I love these clubs to death. They let you know that you mishit the ball, but they're very forgiving at the same time.

I don't think you could go too wrong with the r7 TPs or the 695.CBs. Maybe even the 735s - still a GREAT set of clubs. In fact, I'd look into those first.

MP-30 is a pretty good stick I must say. Maybe a little more forgiving than the 60 and 67's but still a real players club. IMO

Mizuno's are a hit...for good reason, solid clubs

I thought I'd like the Ping S59's, I didn't...like the S58 though

Other than that, Titleist makes an OK iron for blades, Taylor Made will never be in the realm of a good stick (personal preference)

I'm on my second set of Mizunos, and they have been fantastic. Only beef I have is the lie and loft issue that I brought up in another post. Basically, most clubs that are forged can have the lies and lofts change over time, depending on how much time you spend on the range. To be safe, you need to check the lies and lofts every year or so (at least, this is what I've done - and indeed, the lofts and lies do change).
Mizunos are amazing clubs. I've only had their blades, and they've been fantastic - not nearly as hard to hit as some other blades (such as titleist or hogan).

Taylor Made R7 Tp's: Cast, soft and very workable.
Cally X-20 Tour: " " not as workable.
Mizuno MP 60's & 32's: Forged, very soft and somewhat forgiving.
Adams Or forged: Very soft, workable and forgiving.

I just purchased R7 TP's - hit them once on the range, and I'm impressed! I upgraded from '94 Hogan Edge irons which I hit pretty well, but with a bucket of 70 balls, I hit exactly two bad shots with the R7's - Including warm-up. And they were very straight, too

I think they have less feedback than my edges did, but I don't play as often as I used to. I'll trade the lack of feedback for the lack of mishits.

Now I'm faced with another decision. I just won a set of Callaway X-forged at a tournament and I now have two of the newest - hotest sets out?

I'm not sure if I want to trade a set for the MP 60's or just keep them both, and if I keep them both, which ones are better?

Take a look at the new X-20 tours. More compact head, less offset, and standard rifle project x shafts. Much more of a player's club than the old "pro series" but still retaining some classic callaway forgiveness.

I too am looking for new irons. I plan on playing some touranments this year in an effort to travel the world. My favorite irons so far are the Callaway x-forged and tour x-20 and the Taylormade r7 TP. Runner up are the Cleveland CG4.

Any other suggestions would be very much appreciated. I hope to buy the irons in the next 30 days. I'm playing on my very first set of new irons I bought two years ago and they do not fit me at all. Oh, the Callaways are with the rifle 6.0 shafts.
