I just read that the Ladies will now be getting a 5th major.  The Evian Masters will be moved to the Fall and will now be considered a major. I'm all for supporting the LPGA's efforts to keep $$$ and events, but my first thought on this move is that it could skew/ruin historical stats now [I know the Kraft Nabisco major is only 28 years old].  Definitely a sign that the LPGA will have to be truly global to survive at the level of sponsorship they desire -- we'll see how much more the PGA has to move its borders down the line.

So long as they're not retroactively considered majors, that's fine, because in no way does Natalie Gulbis deserve to be called a "major winner." :-P

I wonder if they past winners will be retroactively called major champions? Major champion Natalie Gulbis? 2-time major winner Paula Creamer? Ai Miyazato would have won her first major without even knowing it. Then again, the LPGA does have a history of monkeying with what is a major and what isn't.

My understanding of the Evian Masters is that it's already considered a major by the LET, but not the LPGA. Am I off on this?

I know the Canadian Open (or at that time the du Maurier Classic) used to be like that, but I don't know about the Evian.

IMO real majors become majors by years of tradition leading to a general consensus, not by designating events as majors.  That is the fundamental flaw with bot the LPGA majors and the Champions tour majors.  They also should never have a sponsor's name as part of the title of the tournament.  Again, IMO.

But then again, what the hell do I know?
