Hello all!

Would like to pick your brains on a new driver..The Cleveland in currently using is about to retired!

Im looking at the following Nak,Titleist,Mizuno and maybe SNT. What are your recomendations. I am also putting in a Fuji ZCOM. As I swing alot from the top of the swing and this shaft gives me alot of confidence. Current swing speed 110mph.

Cheers.

I'm partial to the 983K. Haven't hit the new tit yet. The R7 was pretty easy to hit but my tit went farther.

i like the talyormade 580xd. large face allows for easy contact and boy do the balls sail off of these. The r7 is great too but for 500 bucks not worth the difference of the 580xd for around 250 bucks

Well, according to my thread on shafts, I just ordered a Titleist 983K. With the new 905 being eventually available you get the 983K at a very good price and it's still a pretty nice driver, IMHO.
Driver: Wilson DD6
Hybrid: TaylorMade Rescue
Irons: Mizuno MP-33
Wedges: Mizuno Tour Style 52/7 and 56/11
Putter: Ping JAS Anser

Indeed. I still play my 983K, as you can (at least currently) see in my sig.

Anyone had any long-term experience with a new Titleist 905s or T ?

400cc isnt it ? How big is the 983k cc wise ?

Also is the 905 noise at impact really that dull ? .......my 983 is conforming (.830 COR),and thats pretty dull sounding.I cant believe the 905 can be much "worse".Mine sounds like a persimmon at times.

Anyone remember those.........or brave enough to admit it

I belive the 983 is 365cc's. The 905 does have a different ping to it than the 983. I play a 983 as do about 20 of my friends. I know when any of them has hit it on the sweet spot cause I know the sound.

My friend who is a BIG hitter just bought a 905t. He's still getting used to it I'm sure, but he's nowhere near as accurate with this club yet.

I dont find my 983k the longest driver ive ever used distance-wise by any means (it aint the shortest either),but as i barely possess a dead straight shot in my bag,i do find it incredibly easy to shape as required, and hit it as straight (relatively) as anything in my bag.Its gotta be a damn tight hole before i get searching in my bag for a 3 wood etc......

IF the 905 is more difficult to control/shape at the expense of a few extra yards its an offer i'll definately pass on.

Thanks for the info.Keep me posted

Try Krank Golf's RHCP 460cc driver. I tried it out last weekend
at a charity tournament and it out performed my G2 in both distance
and accuracy. Incredible!!!

I've hit the following and liked them but haven't purchased them
Mizuno 460
Cleveland Comp
Titleist 905's
TaylorMade 510 TP

I own 3 and will use them depending on my mood
TaylorMade R7
Ping G2
Callaway Prototype - not allowed to discuss more until they release it :(

Definately spend some time on a launch monitor to see which combination of head and shaft work. And do it over several visits because you're swing will vary from day to day (hopefully not though)

    • Day 51 (29 Apr 26) - Worked with a few of the golf team kids plus my grandson (he’s too young for the team as it’s middle-high school age and he’ll be 10 Sat).  He put on a small hitting clinic (hitting off the same tees as the rest of the boys) - one of the older kids called him a “coach”.  Worked in a few shots for myself - had the light bag: driver, 7w, 4 - 6 - 8 - Pw - Sw (DCI 962’s except the Sw a 981) and Zebra putter….got in some great tee shots, a couple of recovery and an awesome up and down for bogie: 55 yds out, hitting 4th shot due to 2nd getting tangled in limbs - see the window I need to hit for a tight spinner with the Sw - nail it to a postage letter distance from the cup for a tap in bogie….my kind of practice.
    • Day 21, April 29.  Before going to work this morning, I worked in my indoor practice room for 20 minutes.   This was entirely 6-iron shots with the usual step.  Video yesterday showed me that I'm still straightening my trail leg too much (leading to the backswing length issue I've been working to fix), so I focused on not doing that in my rehearsal swings.
    • Exactly correct.   I was absolutely certain about the penalty (none here), but the bit about where they play from can be really confusing the first time you read it.  In my big paper rule book, i used colored highlighters to make it clear.  Good thing I did, at the Cascades there's little to no cell service, so using the rules app on the phone wasnn't possible.
    • Taking a crack it, but looks pretty clear. 11.1  Ball in Motion Accidentally Hits Person or Outside Influence. a. No Penalty to Any Player If a player’s ball in motion accidentally hits any person (including the player) or outside influence: There is no penalty to any player. This is true even if the ball hits the player, the opponent or any other player or any of their caddies or equipment. Reading further down it looks like they have to play the ball as it lies. No replay from the previous spot.
    • I had an interesting one yesterday, a local qualifier for the US Senior Open, at the Cascades Course at the Homestead.  Well, first things first, the VSGA arrnged for the officials to play the Cascades on Monday at the players' practice round rate.  Its lots of fun, rather old-style (built in the 1920s).  anyway, a player missed a short putt, and (apparently embarrassed) took a step to be ready to tap the ball back in.  The ball lipped out, and hit the player's foot.  I was nearby, and they waved me over, and asked "What do we do now?"  I was pretty sure of the ruling, but asked them to wait for a few seconds while i double-checked.  I did have it correct, even though its one of the more confusing rules in the book right now.  I'll leave the correct answer out for now, in case anyone wants to guess, or research it, and post their ruling.
