So I headed out to the course today to get a club in my hand. Was going to hit the range but saw that the back nine was wide open. Birdie, birdie, bogey, eagle to start. Parred the difficult Par-3 14th, then went birdie, birdie, par, birdie to finish the back (front) at 6under!!

To the front (back). I have 72y into 1 and don't convert. Have 10' for birdie on 2 and don't convert. Knock it in tight on 3 and make birdie. So, now I'm 7under (my career low on my course) with six holes to play... par, par, bogey, par, par, par. 6under at the finish. Great under any other circumstances...

I think I got a little too caught up in my score for my own good. Lesson learned.

Wow! That's some great shooting!! Honestly, my best rounds have come when I am not looking at the scorecard. I think when you get score obsessed you only think of keeping at -6 or -7 or whatever. When you basically throw away the scorecard mentally, you actually free yourself up to keep playing well. I played a links style course for the first time a couple weeks ago. The course, Glen Erin Golf Club (Janesville, WI), is about 6800 yds long. With very, very unforgiving fescue and deep bunkers, the premium is keeping the ball down the middle, and hitting the right tier. After getting hit by a ball (Yes, nailed in the leg!!!!) I went on to make five birdies in a row (I had never even made four straight on my home course!). I was so surprised after getting hit, I really didn't focus on where I was score-wise, and didn't look at the card (68, -3) 'till the end of the round, after which, I had to scramble to work. If there's any point in all of that, it is not to focus on your score, but rather to hit the little white ball and enjoy the walk. The results might surprise you.

I wanted to get to -10 so bad though! But yeah, obviously you are right. Perhaps self-consciously I let myself focus on score too much because I knew it was just a practice round and wanted to see what happens if I put my focus on the score. A nice positive to the day was that I got my round low, and early.

I've got to say, I've never been hit by a ball, I could imagine its not the most pleasant thing. Then to fire off those birdies. Yeah, you're mind was at a different place for sure. Maybe I should deliberately knock my ankle bone with my putter if I start to focus on score to much during a tournament round. That's always a pleasant feeling! hahaaa.

No, not tricked up thankfully. Some brutal par-3s. OB left and right on most holes. Some elevation changes. And everyone's favorite grass, kikuya. Absolutely no roll. Well, 10yards at the most at least.

Well, I did it again. This time I at least finished at my career low. I'll let the scorecard speak for itself. I'm the "B" obviously. "S" is Sam, the kid I wrote about in the US Am Bound thread. "D" and "A" are my golf nemesises Alex and Dustin. Alex and I were playing a two man better ball against Sam and Dustin. 20/20/20 with $2 dots. Lots of dots. Stat of the round, 23 putts. Or maybe it should be the 10 birdies. Perhaps the six birdies in a row...?

Yeah, everyone kinda caught fire at one point or another yesterday. Except for my partner of course. hahahahaaaa But, like I told him after the round, at least he did his part by not pumping balls OB, or three putting or just blowing up in general.

    • Day 38 (18 Dec 25) - got out in the backyard with grandson this afternoon.  We got into a little game of pitching the ball from about 25yds to a target point just off the asphalt lane behind the backyard.  Goal - just clear it with a quick hop and stop.  Focused on using the wedge swing motion I was talking with the course pro yesterday….smooth and thru just bruising the grass.  In addition to a concentrated focus on technique, it also called for a quiet mind locked in on target point.  Rehearsed this with both the 50° and 55° wedges.
    • I listened to the Shaun Webb one about the swing coach app. Sounds like a great thing and will (hopefully) be very useful for me. I do think the hosts are underestimating where AI could be in a few years. Right now it's just regurgitating stuff that it has been told or it has scrubbed from somewhere else and a human guiding things will be quite a lot more helpful than just the AI, but it's going to keep developing and it will reach the stage where it's figuring this stuff out on its own. Time will come when it will have you do a TPI style screen and take various height/arm length/leg length etc. measurements, have you tell it some history and your time constraints and goals and what not and it will watch a video of your swing face on and DTL and it will know exactly what you need to work on.
    • I found it entertaining, but the announcing was lousy.  How did the measuring on the final shot start with Rory being closer and being told he won, and then with no explanation it turns out Scottie won?  Weird.
    • Day 128 12-18 Worked on rotation and getting to lead side. Still working on the flow feeling while doing that. Recorded swings.
    • IMO-the only thing entertaining was the relay race. Everything else was excruciatingly boring...or just  stupid, like the 14-club thing. Watching guys blade wedges into the water over and over is not at all interesting.
