I currently own the CG14s (60, 56, 52) and I'm not getting the distance I want out of them. I hit every club long except my wedges. Just to give you an idea I hit my 9i anywhere from 140 to 155 if i need to, and I've carried a straight away flat par 4 that was 295 to the front. But with my 60 degree the max i can get out of it is 60 yds. I'm working with about a 10-15 yd gap between my 52 and pitching wedge.

I'm up for getting a brand new set altogether. Any ideas?

60 yards with a lob wedge actually isnt all that bad and its not as if you are going to do any better the Clevelands.  Perhaps you should be looking at more of a GI wedge instead of a blade wedge like a Cleveland or Vokey.

Whats in my :sunmountain: C-130 cart bag?

Could you list your stock PW, 52, 56, and LW yardages, because the way you worded this it sounds like your big gap is between your 56 (not sure of the distance) and your 60.

If you hit a 9 iron 145 on average, you should hit your PW about 130, your 52* about 115, your 56* about 100, and your 60* about 85. These would be consistent stock swing averages. What it sounds like to me is that your 60* might be a little open faced when your making contact with the ball. Is it a high 60 yard shot or a low 60 yard shot?

It would help if we knew what irons you were playing, and loft of the 9i and PW (assume you use stock PW from iron set).

The 60* LW is an interesting club. Some people can hit them 80 to 90 yds., others use them just for partial shots.

Here's the shaft specs on your CG14s:

  • 52* = 35.5"
  • 56* and 60* = 35.25"

CG14 wedge shafts are just about the same length. In most golf sets, numbered irons have 1/2" length differences between clubs up and down the set. For wedges, it is often less than this. Thus, you might get less than expected yardage differences between wedges. And if you mix Vokeys with CG14s, or Mizunos with Ping, the shaft differences really get interesting.

Solution: If the 52* and 56* have little distance differences, trim a little off the 56* shaft.

Focus, connect and follow through!

Awards, Achievements, and Accolades

I only carry 3 wedges one with 54 loft and a 58 loft. and than the the PW from the iron set.

I hardly hit a full wedge into the green, i usualy play a 3/4 swing just to get little less spin on the ball

i think the carry on your lobwedge isn't that long because off the bounce it has, think you slide just

to much under the ball with it. less bounce better faiway hitting club, you might be able to flatten out the bounce,

i know Luke Donald carry's wedges with no bounce at all

    • Back in my Army days a "gooch" was a particular part of the anatomy. Example, say Okeechobee is the b-hole of Florida, then Belle Glade would be the gooch. Seems he wears his name well.
    • I can't say that I remember a lot of individual putts, but I do have one specific memory.  The first time I played the Old Course, I had hit a pretty good drive on the 6th hole.  I had about 60 yards left, and due to the swale in front of the green, there was no chance of flying a wedge on or near the green and having it stop on the green.  My caddie recommended either a running 7-iron chip or a putt, and I took the putter and a pretty hard swing.  The ball rolled over humps and through hollows, disappeared into the swale in front of the green, and re-appeared heading right at the hole.  I ended up maybe 12 feet away.  The caddie turned and held out his hand to shake mine, and said "Now THAT was a golf shot!"
    • For the first time since 2021, I made a 3 on the 12th at Stoneleigh.    395 yards, something like 80 feet uphill, I hit a solid drive and a 7-wood to inside a foot.  Even I couldn't miss that one.  I feel like I haven't played a lot of golf this year, but I'm making decent progress.
