Might as well be as good as a tour pro, putting is easier than most things to compare to a pro at.

I suppose you could argue that the pro greens are much tougher than the ones you face but yeah expecting to putt as well as a pro seems optimistic.

Yeah thats true, never really thought of it that way but then with that logic we should hit as many fairways as pros because our fairways are wider...like you said its just a little optimistic to putt like a tour pro.

Actually, competent putters putt better on PGA Tour quality greens. They're smoother, require shorter strokes, break more predictably... etc.

Playing the same greens for the past few days i'm almost sure I would've made more putts had the greens been better, they have so many inconsistencies

This is an easy one....     as often as possible. That's how often you should 1 putt.

This is so silly, there's to many things that go into this from how you get to the green in the first place to the greens themselves.

If you suck at approach shots and always chip you may technically 1 putt quite often but how does that help your score?

If you conservative and aim for the big parts of the green and "settle" for a 2 putt. Then you may very rarely 1 putt but might score better then the above scenario.

If you playing someplace like oh Beth Page Black or Pinehurst ect. ect. you may never 1 putt.

If you playing a flat as a board muni that about 4800 yards long you might 1 put quite a bit.

It all means nothing in the end.

I have to agree with Iacas, greens closer to pro greens are easier to putt. Given there might be more ungulation on some, but they roll so true. One of my best putting days came on a private golf course, donald ross design, these greens are nearly the fastest greens i have been on. But i know if i started the ball on line, it was going to stay online. There was no ball marks, no angry golfers messing up the greens, the cups were perfectly cut.

As for one-putting. Depends, if you get up and down alot, you will be one putting alot. For me, i usually one putt between 5-6 times per round. I am usually around 30-32 putts per round.

Your putter isn't helping you out with that many putts.  Assuming your misses aren't bad (how can they be hitting 12 greens) you should be getting up and down 2 or 3 times out of the remaining 6.  I'd think hitting the ball like that 73-74 should be the norm unless your making a double or two a round.  My buddy shots about the same (hits 10 to 12 greens) and rarely shoots under 76 because of big mistakes.  I don't hit alot of greens (maybe 6 or 7 on a ok day) and if I have over 31 putts I wasn't sharp around the green.  But the more greens you hit the more putts your going to have (generally).

But I agree, the nicer, faster greens are easier assuming they aren't insanely difficult.  The one thing I believe though is if your used to slower greens you might not putt as well on the quicker greens because of what you are used to and you really can't practice every putt you will see on the course before the round.

    • Day 38 (18 Dec 25) - got out in the backyard with grandson this afternoon.  We got into a little game of pitching the ball from about 25yds to a target point just off the asphalt lane behind the backyard.  Goal - just clear it with a quick hop and stop.  Focused on using the wedge swing motion I was talking with the course pro yesterday….smooth and thru just bruising the grass.  In addition to a concentrated focus on technique, it also called for a quiet mind locked in on target point.  Rehearsed this with both the 50° and 55° wedges.
    • I listened to the Shaun Webb one about the swing coach app. Sounds like a great thing and will (hopefully) be very useful for me. I do think the hosts are underestimating where AI could be in a few years. Right now it's just regurgitating stuff that it has been told or it has scrubbed from somewhere else and a human guiding things will be quite a lot more helpful than just the AI, but it's going to keep developing and it will reach the stage where it's figuring this stuff out on its own. Time will come when it will have you do a TPI style screen and take various height/arm length/leg length etc. measurements, have you tell it some history and your time constraints and goals and what not and it will watch a video of your swing face on and DTL and it will know exactly what you need to work on.
