My swing is starting to come around for me. I just started playing this summer and I'm finally starting to carry 300 yards at the range. I took a cool picture at the backswing and wanted to share!

I'm not really big but I feel like I get a good bit of club head speed for my size. I wish it was something more special, so many people carry 300 yards now days, it's really not that rare. :(

Come on my friend. I bet less than 1% of all people playing golf can carry a drive 300+. That may be too high. Besides, getting the ball in the hole faster is object of the game anyway. Though if you're hitting it that far, huge advantage for you.

Carrying 300 is quite an accomplishment and also pretty rare as stated above. Personally, my average carry is around 240. Occasionally I will really get a hold of it and carry 250 - but never over 250. If you're accurate with your distance and can actually carry it 300, I salute that.

Like I had mentioned I just started playing this year, during this time I started working at a golf course for obvious reasons. I don't know very many people that golf, just the ones that work there (golf pros) and my cousin (5 handicap). They all hit 300 yards pretty consistently. I was just basing it off that, maybe once I get the chance to play with more people I'll find hitting it that long isn't as common.

I'm starting to get pretty consistent, but I would rather hit 230 yard drives and not have 40 putts a round any day. :(

The best thing about that photo is the footwear! lol

And Rory McIlroy said you need metal spikes to swing it that fast and hit it that far! Classic.

300 is farther than it looks. Plus most public ranges have their yardages wrong I hit 200 at one, 250 at another the next day, yeah right. Very few even on the PGA tour even average 300 every drive so pardon me for not particularly believing you. I just doubt your cousin and a few club pros are averaging what not even all tour players do. Only 25 players average 300 on the tour. Here are the driving distance averages this year: Rank. Player. Well by carry, I'm assuming you mean that the ball is landing at 300? Or are you saying that your ball is coming to a stop at nearly 300? When I gave you my information regarding my "carry" I meant that the ball is actually coming down at 240-250. If your ball is making contact with the ground at 300 yards that is a very rare accomplishment and by no means common. The average "drive" for most professionals on tour (players carrying a card) is between 275-320 yards. I'm not giving you stats to discount what you said - just giving you an idea of what an accomplishment you've made.

40 putts a round... ouch! Put the driver down and go pick up an Odyssey XG Sabertooth! (www.hurricanegolf.com - under $80.00).

EDIT : Unfortunately, I get almost no roll/release on my drives due to my very high ball flight. I usually end up landing anywhere from 250-270 when the ball comes to rest - and that is when I really get a good smash.

Fair enough they may not be 100% accurate. On my solid hits on the course I'm reaching 300-320 range, I was just basing my solid hits on that. Also in fairness I save my driver for the non range balls that find there way into the practice range. So the range balls tend to be 10-15 yards shorter carry. Those are all averages also, I guarantee if those pros were out there swinging out of there shoes like me they would carry 350 lol

I have a high ball flight as well, generally not much roll. My cousin has a very low ball flight that will carry 300 and roll a good bit. I need to get a range finder out on our range. The distance to the furthest green according to the plaque On the ground is 285 I was 10 yards in front of the Plaque and I was hitting 10 feet up the tree line behind the green. The tree line about 20 25 yards past the center of the green. I pick the range So have a good look all around. Can't you guys tell exactly how far those trees are ahead in the picture! :-P

Keep it up with the Driving man. It's definitely a big plus and major advantage to hit the long ball. But like you already know and stated, it doesn't matter if you're on in 1 or 2 if you 4-5 putt. You already said you're just starting to take the game seriously though so you have plenty of years to work your way around the green! I definitely advise putting your short game together though as soon as possible. My dad still beats me on the course even though I'm out driving him by 50 yards due to his short game skills. Either way... welcome to the forums and again, that's one HELL of a drive you're carrying. Good job.

I foresee yet another 300 thread with 10+ pages. Great job on the driving, now it's the rest of the game. :)

Geeze, here we go again, another tangjent threat to why 20 hdcp's can't hit it 300 yards.. Lets just stop it now, honestly if you want to rant or discuss a 300 yard driving swing, go search for some older threads

Question, how long is that driver, it looks like its 46"+

Looks like your in a solid position at the top of the swing, keep at it.

    • For someone with a very consistent swing speed and ball strike, upgrades may improve performance. For everyday golfers, probably not. I'm a rather odd player. I usually get best performance from basic pro or tour heads, but with lighter stock shaft from the model's standard driver set up. (Yes, current EXS is an exception.) When I get a full driver fitting, I usually try a couple of modest upgrade  (not super magic) shafts. Most of the time upgrade gives a couple of extra yards, or 10 yards less. Remember this about stock shafts: They are matched to a particular driver model to fit the type of player likely to adopt that model. Also, most OEMs offer a variety of stock shafts in their drivers. Test for which one works best. And, the final decider...
    • Uh, seeing you're having trouble with hit-and-miss performance from inherited clubs... Get Fitted! IF the 910H pair don't work, swap them out. Also, only two degrees separation in loft is not much. You might consider a 4W (much more reliable than a 3W) plus hybrid. This would give more distance separation than two Hs. For hybrid, get one you can hit... Maybe a more benevolent 4H. Quite often I try to brand match my bridge clubs (FWs and Hs), and my irons and wedges... but not always. Whatever works!
    • Like others have said, get fitted. Since 2011, I have played some combination of 4W + 7W. I had a Cobra 3H and 4H a couple of years back, and would swap out the 7W for a 3H in cold months (keep out of cold wind, and rough thinner for wayward drives.) The 7W matched up with yardage often with 3H; the current 4H goes almost as long as 7W, but has a lower trajectory. 4H also bumped out 4i in last bag redo; I learned to hit stinger with 4H so that's my driving iron on tight holes with shallow landing area. Again, a side-by-side test will tell you which way to go. If 5W or 3H is meh, keep the 7W. Also, are you looking to replace the 7W with a 5W or 3H, or add a second bridge club (5W or 3H) to your bag?
    • Makes sense and aligns with other literature. Static stretching, especially for longer durations, can impede performance in strength and power activities. I would not want to do like hamstring, quad, and calf stretches then go immediately sprint. To me that sounds like a terrible Idea. I would rather start off walking, then jogging, then running, then ramp up to sprinting.  To me, static stretching isn't even a warmup activity. I like the term warmup; you want to get some exertion going before the activity.      a { text-decoration: none; color: #464feb; } tr th, tr td { border: 1px solid #e6e6e6; } tr th { background-color: #f5f5f5; }
    • Going to Florida for the usual February golf trip, and with our current weather, that date won't get here soon enough. Heading to Augusta GA for the Tuesday Master's practice round, will definitely get some golf in while I'm in the area for a few days. Hope to be able to catch up with @coachjimsc if he's around. Then it's back to Scotland first of July.  Playing 7 new courses, can't wait for that.  Then somewhere after that is the Rhode Island CC Member-Guest and then my normal October golf trip to Myrtle Beach.
