Did you hit any other clubs during your experiment?

No it was raining and I only stayed out there long enough to hit the 4 balls and go get them.

A little follow up FWIW after hitting some more balls.

Driver: 101 yards. (Took me 4 or 5 shots to hit a good one which is fairly normal for me darn it).

5W 102 yards. (In 2 tries. First one was a low hook).

6 iron: 105 yards. (In one attempt because I hit it about as well as I can hit it).

PW: 75 yards. (Also with one shot well hit).

My conclusion is that I actually gained distance with those balls with the help of a more loft and spin down to at least the 6 iron.

Interesting.  Thanks.

I was not really concerned about the 1/3 being accurate, but I had hoped the distance loss would be consistent (% wise) throughout the bag.  It appears that is not the case.

Edit:  I think I will try them anyway.  I will post a review after I have tested them out.

I have a 65 yard area in my yard to hit. I use the almost golf balls. Anything longer then my 9 iron will hit them right out of the yard, across the gravel road and into the soy bean field. Once in there, they're lost till harvest time. I have smacked a few of them with my driver and woods just to see how they do. I think for some reason the irons hit them farther then woods & drivers. But I do like these balls. They fly good and are fun to hit. I just think you would need about 100-120 yards to be able to use all your clubs.

I have plenty of room to hit up to 150 yard shots without losing them so I'm going to mess with the driver some more.

I had a hard time hitting them well with the driver and I'm not completely sure if I was just awful today or if they are harder to hit with that club than a real golf ball.

It seemed like to make them fly well I had to put more backspin on the ball than I would normally have. If that's the case I wouldn't want to change the way I hit a driver just so an Almost Golf Ball will fly better.

    • Day 134 (26 Apr 24) - played Minnesott today, worked with the mid-irons and approaches (especially the 7i).  Scoring was a little higher, but I was focused on making the needed adjustments to the swing to achieve desired distances.
    • I honestly believe if they play longer tees by 300-400 yards, closer to or over 7,000 yards, more rough, tougher greens, women's golf will become much more gripping.  BTW, if it weren't for Scottie killing it right now, men's golf isn't exactly compelling.
    • Day 542, April 26, 2024 A lesson no-show, no-called (he had the wrong time even though the last text was confirming the time… 😛), so I used 45 minutes or so of that time to get some good work in.
    • Yeah, that. It stands out… because it's so rare. And interest in Caitlin Clark will likely result in a very small bump to the WNBA or something… and then it will go back down to very low viewership numbers. Like it's always had. A small portion, yep. It doesn't help that she lost, either. Girls often don't even want to watch women playing sports. My daughter golfs… I watch more LPGA Tour golf than she does, and it's not even close. I watch more LPGA Tour golf than PGA Tour golf, even. She watches very little of either. It's just the way it is. Yes, it's a bit of a vicious cycle, but… how do you break it? If you invest a ton of money into broadcasting an LPGA Tour event, the same coverage you'd spend on a men's event… you'll lose a ton of money. It'd take decades to build up the interest. Even with interest in the PGA Tour declining.
