Yeah, that would take a lot of golfers that don't have USGA handicaps and are worse than a 5.  About 10 times as many folks that don't have a USGA handicap to those that do have a USGA handicap (and assuming the vast majority of those that don't have a USGA HI are worse than a 5).  Maybe that's possible.

Same boat here. Been stuck in the 4's for a while and can't seem to make that jump to scratch. I have been working on my putting and driving mostly but still seem to have very inconsistent days every once in a while. It's still early in my season but I hope to be in form by next month so I can get a good read what I need to be doing to improve.

There's some great stuff in this thread though, I'll definitely be stealing some of these putting drills for tomorrow.

I would say that the vast majority of players who don't carry a regular handicap would not get the needle to 10 much less to 5.  The USGA stats only cover those with USGA handicaps.  My men's club has 200 members, but fewer than 10 have a GHIN handicap of 5 or less, and these are all pretty avid golfers.

So there are 10x as many golfers without handicaps as with them? I don't think so. Not with a reasonable definition of "golfers" (i.e. Not counting occasional golfers).

Hmmm. You may have a point, and then again you may not. Yes, there are people who "play golf" and there are "golfers". And it's a real qualitative difference. But I would maintain that the former vastly outnumber the latter. The folks who "play golf" might even be in leagues that maintain a handicap, but the league handicap is all they care about. They don't give a crap about the USGA. They're not going to enter an Open qualifier!

My point is very simple: there aren't over 10x as many of them. Never mind that some of the players without handicaps are also PGA Tour pros, web.com players, mini-tour players, competitive club pros, etc.

Pretty off-topic, so I'll stop now.

Though the OP is from 2011, so…
