Met a guy at the driving range this past weekend and he was hitting Yonnex tour pro irons. I, personally, have never heard of them before. He was nice enough to let me swing them a few times, and they seem like really nice clubs (perhaps not as nice as the $2000 retail price he suggested, but still.)

So, has anyone heard of this brand before, and if so, what do you know about them? I plan on doing a bit of research myself online, but wanted some outside opinions as well. Thanks!

The War Sticks:

Driver: Adams Speedline F11 9.5* w/ Aldila Voodoo stiff flex shaft

3Wood: Adams Speedline Fast 10 15*

Hybrid: Ping G10 22*

Irons:Mizuno MP32's 3-PW (bought used for $189)

Wedges: Cleveland CG14 52*, 56*

Putter: An old Ram Laser...lol...but it works

Ball: Srixon Q-star

I know they make high end tennis, squash and badminton rackets. I know they make golf clubs as well, but mostly for Asian markets. Never tried them myself.

They're a Japanese company (I believe). They sponsor Ryo Ishikawa, used to sponsor Phil Mickelson and Colin Montgomery. That's about all I know.

In my bag:

Driver: Titleist TSi3 | 15º 3-Wood: Ping G410 | 17º 2-Hybrid: Ping G410 | 19º 3-Iron: TaylorMade GAPR Lo |4-PW Irons: Nike VR Pro Combo | 54º SW, 60º LW: Titleist Vokey SM8 | Putter: Odyssey Toulon Las Vegas H7

Awards, Achievements, and Accolades

I just went to the website and saw all the different products they make, but can't seem to find any retail prices. Anyways, they were pretty cool looking clubs, as they almost looked like blades at address. This guy also had a club with the number 10 on, which I had never seen before either. He said it was 54 degrees and compared it to a gap wedge.

Many older Callaway Big Bertha iron sets have 10 irons.  They are PW's (45*).

I thought that it might be easier for you to find info on the company if you knew how to spell it... didn't mean anything by it.  Wow.

Yonex is a lesser known Japanese club company (as well as other kinds of sporting goods).  They make some very sweet forged irons.  They are much like Mizuno and Miura but are much lesser-known.

I just might have a Yonex stick in my bag... They're great clubs. They're new Ezone musclebacks look fantastic! This Ezone Type 380 that I have is an awesome driver. I've only got a few swings on it so far though so the jury is still out.

Lol...from what I've been reading it seems like these switching to TM's from Yonex was a downgrade...but I have nothing to base that on, just going off what I've been reading about them.

They were 10 years old and the shafts were getting too stiff for him (he's turning 62) so he switched to some new TM's. He really likes the TM's and his game has gotten even better so I see it as an upgrade.

I play Yonex VMS irons ( http://www.yonex.co.uk/golf/Product.aspx?ProdID=895 ) and I love them.

For a short while I also played a Yonex Nanospeed 3i 3 wood but I found I got on much better with the Mizuno JPX 800 so I sold it. Stil love my irons though; they're light, well-balanced and the ball feels soft off the face compared to my old Nike's and the TM's I played out with a mate once.

Over this side of the pond Yonex are more well known and we also have Yonex fitting centers but every now and then I still have people say, "What irons are those? Yonex? Never heard of them" with a tone that suggests they think I'm playing cheap aluminium catalogue irons.
